Using cross-sectional data extracted from 13 waves of HILDA, I examine immigrant wage gap by modifying education variable into levels of educations obtained in Australia and overseas. Results show that immigrants have wage advantages over natives due to their better labor market characteristics, while there is considerable wage discrimination against females among migrants. More importantly, educational experience in Australian’s institutions does not necessarily help migrants have better earnings advantages than overseas education.

In replication, we failed to obtain their results due to problems on replicating variable of over-education. We suspected their definition of this variable was not appropriate. Besides, their models lacked of important variables such as education for wage estimation, wage growth for job satisfaction models, and wage and job satisfaction for job mobility models. In our extension, over-education was redefined and several variables that are more important were added to enhance the models. Our findings show that (1) Education is the consistent factor affects earning and failure of controlling education leads to overestimate the impact of job mismatch on wage; (2) Monetary benefit plays a significant role in job satisfaction; (3) The incidence of both over-education and over-skilling reduces satisfaction on payment; (4) Job mismatch does not affect job mobility and the key determinant of job mobility, instead, is job satisfaction.
