Ampel Gading Sub-district of Malang regency has great Etawa Crossbred goat (CR) population to meet the demand from many areas of Indonesia and even foreign countries such as Malaysia. Since many goats have gone from this area, it may require a technology to improve breeding method to sustain its goat population. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the effect of single-dose and double-dose of hormone PGF2 to improve estrus quality and increase pregnancy success rate in the CR at Ampel Gading Sub-District, Malang Regency. Seventy three CR doe were divided into three groups, i.e. group 1 Consited of 20 goats without hormone treatment, group 2 consisted of 33 goats and group 3consisted of 20 goats injected with hormone PGF2 each with single-and multiple-doses to synchronize estrus. Pregnancy evaluation was observed by non-return rate to estrous method (NRR). Results showed a single dose of PGF2 induced estrus in goats (96.97%) in 17 hours after injection. However, the high rate of estrus did not conceived in goats after given artificial insemination. The success rate of pregnancy in goats without treatment was higher (90%) compared to those with hormone treatment either single dose (87.87%)or double doses (75%).

The study examined how consumers behave in relation to their own ethnic food and how food processors respond towards these foods. Consumer behaviour was viewed as the purchasing decision process: purchasing intention, purchasing action and the satisfaction towards these foods. Food processor response was explained by the processing and marketing strategies towards ethnic foods. Multistage area sampling was used to randomly select 400 households from either Malang or Kediri areas (200 urban and 200 rural) as consumer respondents. One hundred meatball processors and 86 tofu processors respondents were selected from urban areas using cluster sampling. Respondents were interviewed using a structured questionnaire by the researcher and enumerators. Logistic regression analysis was used to analyse consumer behaviour towards ethnic food. However, this farming was unlikely the favourable venture because of the long harvest time (three months) than those of the layer farming. This phenomenon become attractive to deeply explore; since many farmers operated the pullet farming, particularly at Turen and Gedangan sub-district of Malang Regency, East Java Province of Indonesia. The study aimed to investigate the profitability and efficiency the pullet farming especially Break-even Point (BEP) and Margin of Safety (MOS) perspective. There were 23 pullet farmers that divided into three scale including scale-1 (controlling 4000-11,667 birds; n=14), scale-2 (having 11,668-23,335 birds; n=7), scale-3 (raising > 23,335 birds; n=2). Data collection on 24th-31st March 2015 used survey method. Data analysis employed descriptive technique using BEP and MOS formulation. Overall, the pullet farming partnership scheme has obtained little profit ranging (IDR 2,546 – IDR 3,630/bird), less efficient venture (BEP: IDR 44,216-IDR 44,489) and the quite high financial risk (MOS: 5.25%-7.43%). However, regarding to the farm scales, the farming scale-3 exhibited the highest profit in comparison with other scales. In conclusion, the pullet farming that controlling more than 23,335 birds achieved the profit of IDR 3,630 per bird, with IDR 44,216 of the BEP price, and 7.43% of the MOS.

The research was conducted in the central area for the development of swamp buffalo in South Kalimantan, namely, Hulu Sungai Utara Regency, in July 2022 with the participation of 145 farmers, who were identified using the multistage sampling method. There were 53 indicators with 9 latent variables, statistically modelled using the partial least squares structural equation modelling method, with evaluation of the outer and inner models. The results show that the information system and economy had a significant effect on human resources (HR), which in turn had a significant effect on the financial and business sustainability of swamp buffalo. The influence of information systems on resources was positive, while economic indicators had a negative influence. HR had a positive relationship with the financial and busin...

The objectives were to: (a) investigate the pattern of the household labour allocation; (b) examine the earning contribution of dairy fanning to the total of household income; and (c) quantify the role of gender in dairy farming activities. Time use patterns for household labour were computed as the time spent on work (dairy farming and non-dairy farming, including on- and off-farm activities). Interviews were conducted separately with the husband, wife, and family members aged 15-64 years for 50 households. Households were classified into three strata based on the number of dairy cattle farmed: strata 1 (with fewer than 3 animal units (AUs)), n=16; strata 2 (with 3 to 5 AUs, n=18); and strata 3 (with more than 5 AUs, n=16). Descriptive, univariate, bivariate and multivariate analyses were performed using SAS package. Results showed that hou...

This research addressed to examine dairy farming value added and profit margin. Multistage sampling method was a technique to select 33 farmers who grouped into 3 scales involving scale-1 (having 5–5.5 Animal Unit (AU), n = 9), scale-2 (owning 6–7 AU, n = 7), and scale-3 (controlling 7.5–8.5 AU, n = 17). Primary and secondary data collection was about two months (April–June 2019). Descriptive analysis using economic formulation method was employed to analyse the data. Results reported that respondents were male farmers aged 50–59 years old with secondary school education and length experience (21–30 years) in raising dairy cattle and they came from medium family member (4–5 persons). Farmers who raised 6–7 AU (scale-2) achieved the highest value added about 45.23%, followed by 43.30% for scale-3 and 37.46% for scale-1. Similarly, profit margin was best-performing in scale-2 (25.33%) compared to scale-3 (24.75%)...

The availability of beef is very important for the rendang industry to ensure the production process. The roles of breeders, wholesalers, retailers, and their distribution need to be managed properly from upstream to downstream. This study aims to analyze the availability of beef for the rendang industry in Payakumbuh City using a dynamic model. Survey research methods and dynamic model data analysis method with Powersim software were utilized. The availability of beef to meet the demand for the rendang industry in Payakumbuh City is still very dependent on the results of slaughtered cattle in Payakumbuh City. Imported beef supply is currently used as an alternative option to fulfill the beef needs for the rendang industry in Payakumbuh City.
