Hans-Joachim Niemann
Hans-Joachim Niemann (HJN), born 1941 in Kiel (Germany); scientist (1972 Dr. rer. nat. at University Tübingen), philosopher, editor and translator.
HJN worked as a physical chemist and head of unit in a large industrial company (experiments on the production of nuclear fuel with laser technology) and has been a freelance writer since 1984.
In the 1990s he took on teaching assignments and guest lectures on critical rationalism at the universities of Bamberg and Passau.
In 1994 he co-founded the journal Aufklärung und Kritik. He published several articles there (which were later compiled in a book, see below) and edited first publications or first translations of works by Karl Popper.
HJN is co-founder (1994) and member of the Society for Critical Philosophy, Nuremberg.
At the publishing house Mohr Siebeck (Tübingen), he has edited and translated six of the fifteen volumes Karl Poppers Gesammelte Werke in deutscher Sprache.
He is author of books:
(1) Die Strategie der Vernunft. Rationalität in Erkenntnis, Moral und Metaphysik (1993)
(2) Lexikon des Kritischen Rationalismus (2004/2006)
(3) Die Strategie der Vernunft. Problemlösende Vernunft, rationale Metaphysik und Kritisch-Rationale Ethik, with new appendices (2008)
(4) Die Nutzenmaximierer – Der aufhaltsame Aufstieg des Vorteilsdenkens (2011), a polemic against the ethics of utilitarianism.
(5) Karl Popper and the Two New Secrets of Life (2014), a contribution to the post-Darwinian theory of evolution.
