Nevertheless, how the parts of a corporate profile translation form a whole narrative remains undertheorized. This study, therefore, examines the relationality of parts in the corporate profile translations of China’s MNCs by integrating William Labov’s narrative structure with Margaret Somers’ narrative identity theory. Specifically, we conduct a theoretical thematic analysis of how constituents form a whole narrative in relevant corporate profiles, of the shifts in the relationality of parts from the Chinese source texts (STs) to the English target texts (TTs) of these profiles, and of the influences of these shifts on the constitution of corporate identities in the target texts. Hence, the objectives of this research were to find out the factors contributing to the motivation and strategies employed by the learners to increase their motivation. The study also administered Schmidt & Watanabe (2001) questionnaire to 100 respondents for the quantitative inputs. In addition to the questionnaires, interview sessions were conducted with the selected respondents by adapting Gardner’s (2006) Socio-educational Theory and Gagne and Deci (2005)’s Self-determination theory. Ten third-year students majoring in French in UPM were selected for the interview. Each interview took about 30 minutes. The results showed that the factors including the lecturer’s role, course line, learning environment, peers, examination results, future needs or jobs and self-interest could influence the undergraduates’ motivation. The phenomenon of code conversion in Malaysia is not something new, making it a habit of the comm... more The phenomenon of code conversion in Malaysia is not something new, making it a habit of the community. Therefore, almost all Malaysian convert easily codes from one language to another. This research attempts to investigate whether it is equally the same phenomenon for French speakers. Therefore, this study aims to identify the driving factors for codeswitching among French-speaking mobility students in Malaysia based on the codeswitching by Gumperz (1982). The respondents for this study is 5 French students aged between 21-24 years old. The study took 12 weeks, and the instrument used is audio recording of the respondents’ daily conversation, which have been recorded, transcribed and analyzed. The findings show that factors that encourage codeswitching are less referenced resources, to facilitate understanding, spontaneous actions, similarities in English and French spelling and encouragement from other speakers.

The study included 50 titles or advertising slogans related to fashion and beauty products are extracted from four magazine namely Glamour, Vogue, Marie Claire and MODAyLOOK analyzed based on the mixing code approach by Kachru (1978). The analysis found English lexical items mixed by inter lingual into the advertising discourse text in Spain. This study is a combination of qualitative and quantitative. Observation methods used to classify the characteristics of each English lexical items used in the selected advertising discourse text. The study found that as many as 31.7% general noun, 17.6% English specific noun that refers to the brand product used directly without any element of translation. The objectives of the study were to identify and discuss the students’ writing in the second language by using e-story. The samples of the study involved all 21 participants from two classes of Malay language at one of the universities in South Korea. The participants were taught in the Malay language as the second language for two hours a week in fourteen weeks. The participants were to rewrite the e-story learnt. The result of the study revealed that majority of the participants managed to rewrite the e-story. The participants also seemed to be interested in the e-story since it is different than the normal classroom. Also, the results showed that e-story manage to enhance study learning in the second language. It is hoped that further study will focus on other e-story from the Malay folklore to enhance second language learners in learning.

The study utilized quantitative and qualitative method of data collection, by applying the definition of misselection errors by Dulay, Burt and Krashen (1982) and misformation errors by James (1998) to the analysis. The objective of the study is to identify and discuss the students' perceptions on Malay folklore. The sample consisted of 20 subjects were male and female students at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, Korea. Students are given three folklore and they have been interviewed based on their understanding of the story. Their conversation was recorded and analyzed using discourse analysis by Brown and Yule (1983). The study found that students have to make assumptions, implications, reference and inference, through the utterance of these stories. Students discuss the revelations that shaped the assumptions, implications, reference and inference. In addition, the students really like folklore because all stories are interesting and easy to understand. This paper focuses on the conflicts that occur in discussion among secondary school students. The... more This paper focuses on the conflicts that occur in discussion among secondary school students. The objectives were to investigate and discuss the types of conflict that were present. The sample comprised fifteen subjects from a secondary school who were divided into small groups and then given a topic for discussion. The subjects were given the chance to raise any conflict that was encountered during their discussion. The results of the study reveal that this type of discussion helped subjects to become actively involved in dialogues and increased their confidence towards learning. It is hoped that future studies will focus on the advantages of conflict in discussion among learners.

Kesilapan ini akan menggugat proses penguasaan bahasa kerana ia akan memberi kesan terhadap proses penguasaan gramatikal dan semantik pelajar. Justeru itu, kajian ini bertujuan menganalisis kesilapan ejaan dalam karangan pelajar yang mempelajari bahasa Perancis sebagai bahasa asing. Sampel dalam kajian ini terdiri daripada 15 karangan sepanjang 250 – 400 perkataan yang disediakan oleh pelajar tahap Tiga. Analisis kajian ini dilakukan secara kuantitatif dan kualitatif dengan mengaplikasikan pengkelasan kesilapan ejaan oleh Rimrott & Heift (2008). This research aims to investigate the usage of similar sounding words as a written communication strategy in learning Mandarin. The respondents were 59 second- and third-year Malaysian students learning Mandarin as a foreign language at a public university. An open-ended questionnaire was set to gauge respondents’ perception on the strategies used, and was divided into four parts, namely the demographic data and 3 parts of written tasks. The respondents were required to write a dialogue, answer questions on their hobbies and construct sentences using the words given. A total of 77 data of similar sounding words were found. Kajian ini bertujuan untuk membandingkan strategi penggunaan perkataan untuk semua tujuan yang di... more Kajian ini bertujuan untuk membandingkan strategi penggunaan perkataan untuk semua tujuan yang digunakan oleh pelajar Melayu yang mengambil mata pelajaran Bahasa Perancis sebagai bahasa asing dan pelajar Perancis yang mengambil mata pelajaran Bahasa Melayu sebagai bahasa asing. Seramai 15 orang responden terlibat dalam kajian ini. Mereka diminta melakukan satu set aktiviti penulisan. Kajian ini menggunakan kaedah penganalisisan kualitatif dan kuantitatif yang diubah suai daripada kerangka definisi penggunaan perkataan semua tujuan oleh Dornyei (1995). Hasil kajian mendapati bahawa pelajar Melayu banyak menggunakan strategi penggunaan perkataan untuk semua tujuan pada artikel kata nama, kata kerja, kata posesif dan preposisi, sementara pelajar Perancis pula menggunakan strategi ini pada imbuhan, kata nama dan kata jamak. Therefore, it is essential for researchers to carry out a literature review of narrative analysis in this field in a more complete way. This study reviews the body of literature that uses narrative analysis in recent translation studies. The objective of the study is to identify and discuss the students' perceptions on Malay folklore. The sample consisted of 20 subjects were male and female students at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, Korea. Students are given three folklore and they have been interviewed based on their understanding of the story. Their conversation was recorded and analyzed using discourse analysis by Brown and Yule (1983). The study found that students have to make assumptions, implications, reference and inference, through the utterance of these stories. Students discuss the revelations that shaped the assumptions, implications, reference and inference. In addition, the students really like folklore because all stories are interesting and easy to understand. This paper focuses on the conflicts that occur in discussion among secondary school students. The... more This paper focuses on the conflicts that occur in discussion among secondary school students. The objectives were to investigate and discuss the types of conflict that were present. The sample comprised fifteen subjects from a secondary school who were divided into small groups and then given a topic for discussion. The subjects were given the chance to raise any conflict that was encountered during their discussion. The results of the study reveal that this type of discussion helped subjects to become actively involved in dialogues and increased their confidence towards learning. It is hoped that future studies will focus on the advantages of conflict in discussion among learners.

Kesilapan ini akan menggugat proses penguasaan bahasa kerana ia akan memberi kesan terhadap proses penguasaan gramatikal dan semantik pelajar. Justeru itu, kajian ini bertujuan menganalisis kesilapan ejaan dalam karangan pelajar yang mempelajari bahasa Perancis sebagai bahasa asing. Sampel dalam kajian ini terdiri daripada 15 karangan sepanjang 250 – 400 perkataan yang disediakan oleh pelajar tahap Tiga. Analisis kajian ini dilakukan secara kuantitatif dan kualitatif dengan mengaplikasikan pengkelasan kesilapan ejaan oleh Rimrott & Heift (2008). Hasil kajian mendapati sebanyak 77 kesilapan dilakukan oleh pelajar, yang melibatkan 22 kesilapan fonologikal, 33 kesilapan morfologikal dan 22 kesilapan leksikal. A general feature observed in foreign language classroom is the usage of communication strategies... more A general feature observed in foreign language classroom is the usage of communication strategies by the learners in their attempts to manipulate a limited linguistics system to communicate. This research aims to investigate the usage of similar sounding words as a written communication strategy in learning Mandarin. The respondents were 59 second- and third-year Malaysian students learning Mandarin as a foreign language at a public university. An open-ended questionnaire was set to gauge respondents’ perception on the strategies used, and was divided into four parts, namely the demographic data and 3 parts of written tasks. The respondents were required to write a dialogue, answer questions on their hobbies and construct sentences using the words given. A total of 77 data of similar sounding words were found.
