Four of them (13%) were DST nonsuppressors. The mean and maximum postdexamethasone cortisol levels were correlated with the patient's score on the scale for the Schedule for the Assessment of Negative Symptoms and with the score on the anergia subscale of the Brief Psychiatric Rating Scale. None of the correlations were statistically significant. Furthermore, the scores on the above scales were not significantly correlated with clinical variables such as duration of illness, number of admissions or length of hospitalization, nor were any significant correlations found between the postdexamethasone cortisol levels and the score on the Beck Depression Inventory. In addition, depressed and nondepressed schizophrenics did not differ regarding the rate of nonsuppression and the postdexamethasone cortisol levels. This study found that: 1) dexamethasone nonsuppression in schizophrenia was not related to the presence of negative symptoms; 2) there was no relationship between negative symptoms and illness variables; and 3) the depressed schizophrenics did not display increased nonsuppression compared with nondepressed schizophrenics.

Initial presentation was uncommon although the patient responded well to pharmacotherapy. The theoretical framework, management plan and details of the treatment are presented.

Methods: A total of 200 patients with type 2 diabetes were enrolled in the study. They were stratified according to sex, obesity and central obesity (BMI≥30 Kgr/m 2 , waist>102cm in men and >88cm in women). Beck Depression Inventory II scale was used to establish the presence of a depressive disorder (DD). Results: The frequency of DD among the whole population was 31.5% (34.6% for the female vs. 26% for the male patients, p=0.207). BMI was statistically significant increased in depressive diabetic patients compared to non depressive diabetics, in the total (p=0.003), in women (p=0.013), but not in men (p=0.200). In addition, DD rates were statistically significant increased in diabetic patients with central obesity compared to those without central obesity, in the total (p=0.011) and in men (p=0.014). In female diabetic patients, DD was not related to central obesity (p=0.489). Conclusions: Our data support a strong association between type 2 diabetes and depression in Greek patients. A significant association between obesity and depression is also observed in type 2 diabetic patients. Increased BMI is strongly related to depressive type 2 diabetic women, while central obesity is more related to depressive type 2 diabetic men.

A semistructured interview was used and also a number of psychological parameters were assessed. Though only 15.5% of the patients named their real diagnosis, according to the interviewer's assessment 53% were strongly suspicious of their real diagnosis and 55% suspected their real prognosis. Furthermore, 49% when asked directly answered that they wanted to know if they had cancer and 49% disagreed with the policy of withholding the truth from the patient. The policy of telling or not telling the truth to the cancer patient in Greece is discussed in comparison with policies and attitudes in other countries.

A scrutiny of these claims is important so as to ascertain possible disease co-morbidity or fluctuation of symptoms over time. Objectives: To evaluate the long-term stability of psychiatric diagnoses given in first-time patients of an Acute Mental Ward of a Psychiatric clinic Methods: We reviewed a total of 918 patients who received psychiatric care in the Acute Mental Ward of our Clinic from 2004 to 2009. Results: As expected, results varied according to how many years have elapsed since the initial admission. The highest number of readmissions was in the 2004 group, with 61 patients out of 194 being readmitted since then and 20 of those having their initial diagnoses changed in some way. Stability of diagnosis in broad diagnostic categories (psychotic disorders, mood disorders, personality disorders, substance abuse) was generally high. Changes in diagnoses between admissions were mostly in cases with suspected bipolarity of affect, dual diagnosis in Axis I (severe mental illness concurrent with substance abuse) and/or personality disorders in Axis II. Conclusions: The temporal consistency of mental disorders was moderate. Although initial and subsequent diagnoses tended to remain within the broad diagnostic category, cases with lability of mood, personality disorders, and those receiving dual diagnoses were problematic. The relative stability of diagnoses in the psychotic spectrum is most likely due to them being inpatients. The high number of readmissions and subsequent changes in diagnosis necessitates further study.

The patients assigned to placebo (N = 27) presented significantly more severe extrapyramidal symptomatology, particularly dystonias, than those given trihexyphenidyl (N = 15), indicating a need for the prophylactic use of antiparkinsonian medication during treatment with neuroleptics.

Patients, sex, age, duration of diabetes, antidiabetic treatment, diabetic complications, body mass index (BMI), waist circumference, blood pressure, smoking, physical exercise and alcohol intake were assessed. BDI-II(Beck Depression Inventory-II) scale was used to measure the presence of depression. Prevalence of depression was high in the total of our patients (31.5%) and also in men (26%) and women (34.6%) separately. Depression appeared not to be related to patients' age, duration of diabetes, smokingand physical exercise, in the total of them (p>0.05). Patients, who were prescribed insulin, seemed to be more...
