The article provides an overview on the history of site of an ancient castle Dubingiai; the resul... more The article provides an overview on the history of site of an ancient castle Dubingiai; the results of archaeological studies at site of an ancient castle Dubingiai which took place during the years 2003-2007 are presented, complex research methodology of site of an ancient castle and the data on anthropological studies of the remains of Radziwiłł family found on the site of former churches. The site of an ancient castle Dubingiai is one of the most exciting archaeological, historic and memorial complexes in Lithuania, where not only archeological but also interdisciplinary (anthropology, history, art history) and digital (georadar, infrared photography, three-dimensional scanning) based methods are used for its research. Two different fragments of the foundation were uncovered during the studies. Tens of thousands of glass articles’ smithereens have been found in the territory of the Lower Ca... more Tens of thousands of glass articles’ smithereens have been found in the territory of the Lower Castle of Vilnius during archaeological excavations already lasting for more that 20 years. Recently in this territory among plenty of breakage smithereens of two vessels of the 15th-16th centuries were found. That appeared to be a blue glass cup and a rolled gold combined glass cup. Authors of this article reviews their finding, restoration and preparation for exhibiting. Findings of archaeological glass almost always are found in a form of breakage and usually the scale of losses is too large for reestablishing the full appearance of the glass article. At the centre’s of castle research “Lithuanian Castles” division of restoration the breakage of cups has been conserved and prepared for the further restoration process at the Pranas Gudynas’ Centre for Restoration of the Lithuanian Art Museum.
