The syndrome cannot be diagnosed by traditional progesterone-dependent ovalation detection methods. Without the use of invasive procedures or sophisticated equipment, the luteinized unruptured follicle syndrome may go unnoticed. The patient diagnosed as ovulatory, on the basis of traditional ovulation detection methods, who does not conceive may be experiencing the luteinized unruptured follicle syndrome, and thus infertility. The syndrome's incidence, detection, etiology, and treatment are described.

Program staff administered a self-report scale to 135 adults (mean age = 43.3 years, 53% men, 65.1% White). Staff completed the same measure. Individuals with mental illness and staff differed significantly in their reports of the type, number, F(1, 73) = 29.
