Virtual treatment planning is an important preparation step. One advantage of the use of virtual treatment planning is the possibility to assess the accuracy of orthognathic surgery. In this study, a tool (OrthoGnathicAnalyser 2.0), which allows for quantification of the accuracy of orthognathic surgery, is presented and validated. In the OrthoGnathicAnalyser 2.0 the accuracy of the osseous chin can now be assessed which was not possible in the earlier version of the OrthoGnathicAnalyser. 30 patients who underwent bimaxillary surgery in combination with a genioplasty were selected from three different centers in the Netherlands. A pre-operative (CB)CT scan, virtual treatment planning and postoperative (CB)CT scan were required for assessing the accuracy of bimaxillary surgery. The preoperative and postoperative (CB)CT scans were aligned using voxel-based matching. Furthermore, voxel-based matchi...

In doing so we reject the sequential and memory cell semantics of the von Neumann model, and instead adopt the asynchronous and functional semantics of dataflow. We briefly describe the high-level dataflow programming language Id, as well as an initial design for a dataflow machine and the results of detailed, deterministic simulation experiments on a part of that machine. For example, we show that a dataflow machine can automatically unfold the nested loops of n-by-n matrix multiply to reduce its time complexity from O(n^3) to 0(n) so long as sufficient processors and communication capacity is available. Similarly, quicksort executes with average 0(n) time demanding 0(n) processors. Also discussed are the use of processor and communication time complexity analysis and "flow analysis", as aids in understanding the behavior of...

Hence, renal redox status is likely an early determinant of morbidity in small-for-gestational-age (SGA) infants. In this study, we examined renal oxidative stress in naturally-farrowed SGA newborn pigs. Methods: We studied SGA newborn pigs with 52% less body weight and 59% higher brain/liver weight ratio compared with their appropriate-for-gestational-age (AGA) counterparts. Results: The kidneys of the SGA newborn pigs weighed 56% less than the AGA group. The glomerular cross-sectional area was also smaller in the SGA group. SGA newborn pigs exhibited increased renal lipid peroxidation, reduced kidney and urine total antioxidant capacity, and increased renal nitrotyrosine immunostaining. Whereas the protein expression level of NADPH oxidase (NOX)2 was unchanged, NOX4 expression was significantly higher in SGA kidneys. The level of serum potassium was lower, but serum sodium and creatinine were similar in SGA compared with AGA newborn pigs. The serum concentrations of C-reactive protein and NGAL, the biomarkers of inflammation and early acute kidney injury were significantly elevated in the SGA group. Conclusion: Early induction of oxidative stress may contribute to the onset of kidney injury in growthrestricted infants.

Although omega-3 long chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (LC-PUFA), and particularly docosahexanoic acid (DHA), are considered of particular importance, results from clinical trials with preterm infants have been inconclusive because of ethical limitations and confounding variables. A translational large animal model is needed to understand the structural and functional responses to DHA. Neurodevelopment of preterm pigs was evaluated in response to feeding formulas to term-equivalent age supplemented with DHA attached to phosphatidylserine (PS-DHA) or sunflower oil as the placebo. Newborn term pigs were used as a control for normal in utero neurodevelopment. Supplementing formula with PS-DHA increased weight of the brain, and particularly the cerebellum, at term-equivalent age compared wit...

The paper focuses on Chinese immigrants in Italy’s fashion districts. Starting from the industrial district literature, and in particular the specific features of the district model, the causes and possible economic and social consequences of the emergence of an ethnic economy in Italian districts are analysed. General indications for intervention to transform the present challenges into opportunities for new local development in the context of the global economy conclude the paper.

Por lo tanto, son absolutamente incoherentes las repetidas afirmaciones sobre la superación del concepto de distrito industrial, cada vez que una o más realidades de distrito tienen dificultades.
