By applying multiple perspectives, and using exploratory data analysis and Trellis graphs, the pa... more By applying multiple perspectives, and using exploratory data analysis and Trellis graphs, the paper discusses the publication impact of newly introduced financial incentives in Hungarian higher education. Special attention is paid to the changes in the global publication environment with the speedy market expansion of Open Access and mega journal publishers (like MDPI and others). The analysis is based on 38,992 journal articles published between 2019 and 2022, linked to sixteen Hungarian universities with institutional profiles in the Scopus database. In this period, the increase in the number of publications attributed to the universities under study (from 7,990 to 11,290) was accompanied by a large increase in the number of target journals as well (from 2,783 to 3,418). Most of the increase, however, was due to articles published in mega-journals of publishers with low professional recognition, while there was no significant progress in the number of articles published in journals recognized by the international scientific community in general, and specifically in the fields of economics, management, and organizational sciences, taken as examples. Overall, the promotion of Hungarian universities for publications ranked according to Scimago Journal Rank Q has undoubtedly contributed to improving international visibility, better international rankings, and thus to the more effective marketing of Hungarian university (mainly undergraduate) programmes. However, composite university rankings are not fundamentally a measure of academic quality and excellence. The exclusive pursuit of visibility and inclusion in Scopus-if not coupled with similar incentives for internationally recognized professional excellence-could lead to further disconnection of Hungarian universities from the scientific mainstream.

Maturity models (MMs) are based on the premise that improved maturity in organisational capabilit... more Maturity models (MMs) are based on the premise that improved maturity in organisational capabilities leads to improvements in the desired outcome measures. This promising potential explains the growing popularity of MMs and the large number of publications on the subject in various academic and professional journals. The present study is based on an analysis of 339 MM papers published in 193 journals between 1973 and 2017. After giving a brief overview of the theoretical underpinnings of MMs, the authors focus on answering the question of ‘where to publish to achieve maximum impact’ from the perspective of potential authors. The impact of a publication, measured by the number of citations collected over its lifetime, is influenced by the quality of the journal (measured by the journal’s article influence score by Clarivate Analytics, Scimago Journal Ranking by Scimago, and Scimago Q category) and the length of public availability of the publication. The question arises whether these viewpoints can add anything to the understanding of the operation and failures of continental normativity governing the public sector. In the first part, this paper intends to demonstrate for the first time via industry-specific examples that Hungarian energy law, one of the absolute extremes of the rigid continental law is per se following complex adaptive system attributes as being implemented by the public administration, thus refuting any reductionist and linear concepts of ‘classical’ continental public law routines and prejudice. This leads to such essential features of complex systems like emergence, the ‘robust yet fragile’ dilemma and the issue of systemic risk that we investigate in the second part, also covering unpublished case studies, letting us closer to identify risks within the law applied by public administration. Fuzzy Cognitive Map (FCMs) is an appropriate tool to describe, qualitatively analyze or simulate ... more Fuzzy Cognitive Map (FCMs) is an appropriate tool to describe, qualitatively analyze or simulate the behavior of complex systems. FCMs are bipolar fuzzy graphs: their building blocks are the concepts and the arcs. Concepts represent the most important components of the system, the weighted arcs define the strength and direction of cause-effect relationships among them. FCMs are created by experts in several cases. Despite the best intention the models may contain subjective information even if it was created by multiple experts. An inaccurate model may lead to misleading results, therefore it should be further analyzed before usage. Our method is able to automatically modify the connection weights and to test the effect of these changes. This way the hidden behavior of the model and the most influencing concepts can be mapped. Using the results the experts may modify the original model in order to achieve their goal. In this paper the internal operation of a department of a bank is modeled by FCM. The authors show how the modification of the connection weights affect the operation of the institute. This way it is easier to understand the working of the bank, and the most threatening dangers of the system getting into an unstable (chaotic or cyclic state) can be identified and timely preparations become possible.

This paper looks at success factors going with a supply chain coordination strategy within the global supply chain of a successful, medium-sized, privately-owned company, one having locations in North America (USA), Europe (Hungary) and Asia (China). Through the shown GSL’s Chinese plant, we will endeavor to argue that increased collaboration in the supply network with appropriate supply chain coordination brings down not only the inventory level but can also improve conformance quality and reduce quoted lead times.
