She had a history of anterior uveitis complicated by iris bombé for posterior synechiae and cataract. Intraocular pressure (IOP) prior surgery was 14 mmHg. Clinical examination after cataract surgery showed intense inflammation in the anterior chamber and marked hypotony. Fundus examination revealed the presence of ocular decompression retinopathy. High-dose corticosteroids were supplemented to control the uveitis, with a progressive IOP increase and resolution of retinal hemorrhages over the following months. Conclusion: Ocular decompression retinopathy may present af...

The disturbance of the balance between vasodilation and vasoconstriction is not limited to the peripheral microcirculation of the skin, but it is also observed in other organs, such as the choroidal plexus of the eye. We aimed to examine the choroidal thickness (CT), the macular thickness and ganglion cell complex (GCC) average in thirty consecutive patients, without visual symptoms, classified as primary RP (pRP), RP secondary to suspected SSc, and overt SSc. All the patients underwent rheumatologic and ophthalmologic examination, capillaroscopy, test for anti-nuclear antibodies, anti-dsDNA, and anti-extractable nuclear antigens. Ophthalmologic examination included: best corrected visual acuity; slit lamp biomicroscopy; intraocular pressure measurements, fundus exam...

Although the etiopathology is not completely known, the conjunctiva might be a key site of T-cell activation. The differential diagnosis might be tricky at early stages, because of the lack of dedicated clinical and laboratory tests. To meet these needs, we evaluated the suitability of ocular surface matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) clinical test. Methods Consecutive GVHD patients, referred to IRCCS San Raffaele Scientific Institute, were recruited. DED patients served as controls. MMP-9 was tested through InflammaDry immunoassay kit in both groups; Ocular Surface Disease Index (OSDI) questionnaire, tear osmolarity, fluorescein Tear Break-up Time (TBUT), corneal and conjunctival staining, and Schirmer test I were also collected. Parametric and nonparametric statistical tests were used to analyze the intergroup differences; Receiver Operating Characte...

All patients underwent blue-light fundus autofluorescence (spectralis Heidelberg retinalangiography+OCT) and swept-source OCT-A (AngioPlex Elite 9000 SS-OCT, Carl Zeiss Meditech) to analyse qualitative features and choroidal vessel density of areas considered affected, and the inner and the outer border of the lesions. Unaffected areas of otherwise healthy retina have also been studied.ResultsAll inactive inflammatory lesions were characterised by atrophy of choriocapillaris with an impairment of its detectable flow and greater visibility of choroidal vessels. On the other hand, all active inflammatory lesions showed an area of complete absence of decorrelation signal. The pat...

Ocular echography revealed a 100% sensitivity whereas CT scans gave false negatives in 2 out of the 8 cases (80% sensitivity). The value of ultrasound scanning as the diagnostic test of first choice for suspected retinoblastoma is therefore emphasised.

A single, interventional case report. A 28-year-old female presented with nodular scleritis in the right eye and left orbital inflammation lasting 1 year. The patient initially responded to systemic steroids, but then ocular inflammation became more severe, associated with onset of fever, myalgias, and elevation of the erythrocyte sedimentation rate, accompanied by formation of multiple cutaneous abscesses. Ocular and systemic disease control. The diagnosis of pyoderma gangrenosum was made 1 year after the occurrence of ocular symptomatology, when the patient presented with ocular and skin lesions and abscesses in the spleen and liver. Pyoderma gangrenosum is a rare, necrotizing, noninfectious ulcerating skin disease. Ocular and extracutaneous involvement rarely occur, but the disease should be included in the differential diagnosis of scleritis and orbital inflammation.

We report a case of severe unilateral anterior uveitis following administration of intravenous zoledronic acid in a patient with frontal hyperostosis secondary to breast cancer. The patient developed anterior uveitis 24 hours after the administration of intravenous zoledronate. The patient was treated with topical prednisone and cycloplegic eye drops, with complete recovery after one month. This report shows that, on rare occasions, zoledronic acid can be a possible cause of acute anterior uveitis.
