The population-based model derived from the life-cycle of L. rigidum has demonstrated to be useful for predicting its dynamics and proposing alternative management strategies. The aim of this paper is to analyse the behaviour of ryegrass when a cancellation control law is implemented. The controlled system develops transcritical and period doubling bifurcations if parameters deviates from their exact values. The critical curves of these non linear phenomena define acceptable operation regions where the weed population could be eradicated or maintained at sufficiently low infestation levels.

The first one is a semi-analytical procedure, based on a symbolic calculation of an approximate monodromy matrix. The second one takes advantage of software packages for continuation of periodic solutions. Both procedures are used to analyze Chua´s circuit. The second method is also applied to the Rössler system and one of the chaotic systems of Sprott. In all three cases, several period-doubling bifurcation points in the parameter space are detected, allowing to compute a sequence of values supposedly converging to Feigenbaum´s constant. This "experimental´´ computer verification agrees with experiments performed by other researchers in real systems. This material has been used in final projects in a graduate course in dynamical systems.Fil: Alonso, Diego. Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones Científicas y Técnicas. Baroreflex is a feedback control mechanism with an inherent time-delay, which can cause oscillations via Hopf bifurcation. Some local results on the nonlinear behavior of the system, as well as approximations of the periodic solutions, are obtained.

IWM practices for controlling L. rigidum are of high importance, mainly due to its widespread resistance that precludes chemical control as a single management method. The objective of this contribution is to simulate different IWM scenarios with special emphasis on the impact of different levels of barley sowing densities on L. rigidum control. To this effect, a weed–crop population model for both L. rigidum and barley life cycles was developed. Our results point out: (i) the necessity of achieving high control efficiencies (>99%), (ii) that the increase of twice the standard sowing density of barley resulted in a reduction of 23.7% of the weed density, (iii) non-herbicide-based individual methods, such as delayed sowing and weed seed removal at harvest, proved to be inefficient for reducing drastically weed population, ...

An automatic tuning method for PID-type controller is proposed. The adopted method integrates robust control design using Quantitative Feedback Theory (QFT) with Particle Swan Optimization heuristic algorithms (PSO) to systematize the loop-shaping stage. The objective of the design method is to reach a good compromise among robust stability, robust tracking and disturbance rejection with minimal control effort. The resulting algorithm has attractive features, such as easy implementation, stable convergence characteristic and good computational efficiency. In particular, the results of the control design for active queue management (AQM) systems are presented. Simulations show improved congestion control and quality of service in TCP communication networks.

Since field-conducted experiments are very time-consuming and usually expensive, mathematical population-based models are valuable tools to test and develop long-term weed management programs. Within this context, the objective of this paper is to formalize analytically the possible seed bank dynamics of the Lolium rigidum, subjected to different control strategies. The first focus is on studying in detail the effects of integrating constant actions, promoting more environmentally and economically sustainable scenarios. From the same perspective, an alternative to applying time-variant programs is introduced. The proposed control guarantees that the weed population is sufficiently small or, alternatively, is kept below a given economic threshold level in a ten-year planning horizon. Furthermore, an optimization criterion is...

The purpose is to introduce the concepts of robust design not included in the regular curriculum. The problem of designing a controller for a simple mechanical system without knowing the true value of the parameters is proposed in a laboratory class. The task is performed on the real system with the aid of Computer-Aided Design freeware. The combination of practice and software tools encourages the development of autonomous learning and favours the apprehension of the concepts of uncertainty and robustness. A perception survey shows promising results indicating that the strategy of learning by doing is very well accepted by the students.

This task is accomplished with a normal form method and, simultaneously, by using a frequency domain approach. The classical Sibirskii's example and Chua's circuit are shown for illustration of the main results

The design or synthesis of systems exhibiting a prescribed trajectory is presented in this paper.... more The design or synthesis of systems exhibiting a prescribed trajectory is presented in this paper. The design process is based on algebraic concepts, and it relies heavily on the use of Groebner bases. It is assumed that both the trajectory and its dynamics can be represented as algebraic relationships between the variables of the system and their first derivatives. The method yields a dynamical systems with the desired behavior as one of its many solutions.Fil: Calandrini, Guillermo Luis. Universidad Nacional del Sur.
