The proposed model considers a qualitative plus quantitative multicriteria approach, whose criteria and sub-criteria considered relevant for the evaluation of the usability of freight websites are based on the literature of evaluation of websites in general, however, adapted for users characterized as independent carriers. The evaluation proposes the ranking of websites according to the specific preferences of a standard user submitted to the AHP method (Analytic Hierarchy Process), proposed by Saaty. This method was chosen because it is used in numerous multicriteria decision situations, including for evaluating the usability of web pages. The road freight websites available in Brazil were analyzed for the desktop version, considering the following dimensions: effectiveness, efficiency, and satisfaction. This work concludes with suggestions for improving the architecture of road freight transport pages, as well as suggestions for applying the proposed approach to road freight applications available for portable mobile telephony equipment.

Unfortunately, there is a large difference in efficiency and productivity between more and less successful settlements-fewer than 10% of relocated families have received title and over 25% of them have abandoned the property to which they were assigned. This paper presents a decision support methodology for increasing the efficiency of public investments in agrarian reform that includes a data envelopment analysis model and a mechanism for building consensus among the various constituencies of the agrarian reform process, who not infrequently have conflicting objectives. The OR model described herein uses principal component analysis and data envelopment analysis to identify the most important success factors for relocated families leading to an increase in the chance of both autonomous integration with the market economy and definitive entitlement by these displaced families as well as an increase in the predictability of future settlement success. The model was implemented successfully in Rio Grande do Sul, the southernmost state of Brazil, and was partially used in a pilot project for the countrywide agrarian reform accelerated consolidation program.

In this context, clustering techniques are gaining space through the identification of actions that fit better to the employees’ profiles. In addition, Personnel Psychology techniques, with special emphasis on the personality analysis area, present a wide application in studies and companies. This article approaches the clustering by k-means and Fuzzy C-Means, assessed by Silhouette Index (SI), and the principal component analysis of the samples in a gym franchise unit. The samples were characterized by both socio-demographic characteristics and their relationship with the company, as well as their scores on personality tests based on Five Factors Model (FFM). The results indicate the formation of two groups that differ especially in age, time in the unit, salary and job role, also tracking the highest scores on FFM. The formed clusters were analyzed managerially, making it possible to...

Such model presents the human element as a key factor in continuous improvement efforts, influencing workers’ job content and work quality. However, there are few evidences regarding researches on quantitative assessment of the work demand, either psychological or physical, in a lean production environment. Therefore, this study aims to analyse from an ergonomics perspective the psychophysical demand and worker’s perceived workload within assembly cells undergoing lean implementation. The proposed method integrates complementary concepts of widely known techniques, enabling the consolidation of several assessment criteria into one particular index for both psychological and physical demands. Such method is illustrated in a case study in an auto parts industry, whose application is performed in three assembly cells. Our findings show systemic gaps between work demand and employees’ profile, ...

The study is based on a survey with manufacturing companies to capture the improvement of four supply chain performance indicators considering implementation level of seventeen LSCM practices, and ten digital technologies related to Industry 4.0. Data were analyzed through multivariate data analysis. Results indicate that the adoption of Industry 4.0 technologies does moderate the relationship between LSCM practices and supply chain performance in Brazilian industry. However, this moderating effect does not occur at the same extent as expected. The investigation on the effect of the concurrent adoption of Industry 4.0 technologies with already established practices, such as LSCM ones, in manufacturing companies of emerging countries provides a deeper c...

This article aims at empirically examining the relationship between the behavioral orientation of leaders from different hierarchical levels (middle managers and frontline leaders) and the implementation phase of the Lean Manufacturing (LM) roadmap. The proposed method relies on both qualitative and quantitative fronts since it combines the results of semi-structured interviews with lean experts and a cross-sectional survey with 225 leaders from different Brazilian companies that are undergoing LM implementation. The study bridges a gap observed in the literature regarding LM implementation, as it enables the identification of the relationship between multi-level leadership styles and the implementation phases of LM roadmap. The findings support the existence of a transient leadership sty...

The adoption of Lean Supply Chain Management (LSCM) entails a different business model, in which improved profits arise from the cooperation rather than bargaining or imposing power over supply chain partners. This paper aims to examine the relationship between LSCM practices and the performance of the supply chain. The literature about LSCM is scarce and only suggests a positive association between LSCM and supply chain performance, but without testing empirically. The comprehension of the relationship between the implementation of LSCM practices and their effect on supply chain performance helps to anticipate occasional difficulties and sets the proper expectations along the lean implementation. In this sense, we postulate four bundles of inter-related and internally consistent LS...

ERP systems are able to cope with the complexity inherent in the nature of business of these institutions. Understanding the reasons that bring a HEI an ERP is as important as the change that this system can cause to the organization. Initially, to provide a better comprehension, we identified from the literature the main reasons commonly associated with adopting an ERP, and, more specifically, the reasons associated with HEIs. Subsequently, we conducted a qualitative approach in public University in the South of Brazil to identify the reasons and difficulties related for ERP adoption. This University opted to develop its integrated internal systems and the results suggest that these reasons are similar to the reasons of other organizations, except those associated with the unique characteristics of those environments, such as the academic processes. It was...

Among the main objectives of these guidelines is to provide conditions so that each person (child, young or adults) can take advantage of educational opportunities to meet their basic needs. The Brazilian Indice de Desenvolvimento da Educacao Basica (IDEB), index created and calculated biannually by the National Institute of Educational Studies Teixeira (INEP), shows that the levels of proficiency in Portuguese and Mathematics is still below the target. Recent studies suggest that the shortage of public resources and the disorganization of these features are the causes for the poor performance. This study aims to analyze technical efficiency of primary education schools in the state capital of Santa Catarina State (with nearly 500 thousand inhabitants), in the South of Brazil. For this study, Data Envelopment Analysis models were applied using secondary data ob...

One of the main methods used to acquire the necessary information in order to provide effective solutions is the A3 methodology. Therefore, this work aims to propose a complementary method to A3 for information collection, data analysis and knowledge capture and sharing to facilitate problem solving in a general framework. The incorporation of this method to the A3 methodology aims to minimize the difficulties identified in the literature focused on continuous improvement processes. The method comprises combining triangulation techniques utilizing Focus Groups for surveying qualitative data and the approach called LAMDA (Look-Ask-Model-Discuss-Act). The application of this method will be illustrated by means of a case study of a company in the steel industry, which is struggling to meet the demanding production volume in one of its workstations, becoming a production bottleneck due t...

In retail market, companies’ net income is usually low and the expenses with distribution are relevant in the composition of logistic costs. In addition, there are challenges in the distribution of products such as high customer churn, requirement of specific delivery times and high product variability. This paper proposes a model of routing that aims to reduce costs of transportation of companies in the distribution of products, having as a base, a network of stores of furniture and home appliances in the south of Santa Catarina state, in southern Brazil. By combining Clarke and Wright heuristic with own developed heuristics, a computational system has been implemented so that routes considering truck driver work days, truck load capacity and time interval for consumer delivery can be found in acceptable ...

However, the traditional concept has an inaccurate calculation approach. In order to review this concept, the present paper proposes a methodology to obtain this index through a more appropriate mathematical approach, supported by some linear algebra concepts. For this purpose, an organizational climate survey was carried out in a bank agency to exemplify application of this method. Each step of the application was detailed, as well as the intermediate results achieved. among its principal benefits are: improved accuracy to obtain the GSI; the possibility of a comparison with a minimum required rate for the decision-making process; and the possibility of identifying the order of priority of the organizational climate dimensions that mostly need improvements.

Hence, the way leaders act and behave influence the attitudes and behaviors of the followers, setting the predominant culture within the organization undergoing a lean implementation. This article aims at identifying the leadership styles and contextual variables that best support companies undergoing a LM implementation. To achieve that we apply a clustering method that combines information gathered from a survey carried out with 68 leaders from different companies with different levels of lean implementation. Our approach identifies leadership styles that may contribute to the level of lean practices adoption considering specific contextual variables of the leadership such as age, experience and size of team. We argue that, viewed as an evolutionary process, there is more than one best way to lead teams that are implementing lean. ...
