Some complementary interventions, such as relaxation therapy, might affect the pain and quality of life. The present study aimed to identify the effectiveness of Benson's relaxation technique in relieving pain and improving the quality of life in haemodialysis patients. The study was a randomized controlled trial. The data were collected in two haemodialysis units affiliated to Shiraz University of Medical Sciences. A total of 86 haemodialysis patients were randomly assigned to either the intervention (receiving Benson's relaxation technique) or the control group (routine care) from 2011 to 2012. The patients in the intervention groups listened to the audiotape of relaxation technique twice a day each time for 20min for eight weeks. The pain numeric rating scale and Ferrans and Powers Quality of Life Index-dialysis version questionnaire were completed at baseline and 8 weeks after the intervention. The data were analyzed using independent t-test and ANCOVA. The results of ANCOVA showed a significant difference between the intervention and the control group concerning the mean score of the intensity of pain (F=6.03, p=0.01). Moreover, a significant difference was found between the intervention and the control group regarding the total quality of life (F=10.20, p=0.002) and health-functioning (F=8.64, p=0.004), socioeconomic (F=12.45, p=0.001), and family (F=8.52, p=0.005) subscales of quality of life. These findings indicated that Benson's relaxation technique might relieve the intensity of pain and improve the quality of life in haemodialysis patients. Thus, Benson's relaxation technique could be used as part of the care practice for relieving the pain intensity and improvement of the quality of life in haemodialysis patients.

This article as a part of a qualitative study, investigated the factors influencing attainment of teaching competency by nursing teachers. Methods: This qualitative study was performed from May 2011 until February 2012 by grounded theory approach. Using purposeful sampling method, 11 nursing teachers were selected from schools of nursing and midwifery of Tehran province. Data was collected through 16 semi-structured in-depth interviews. All interviews were recorded and then transcripted. Data collection and analysis were performed simoultanously using comparative analysis for analyzing data. Results: Data was categorized into two main categories of internal and external factors based on mutual connotations. Internal factors included individual characteristics, performance features, and educational experiences of the teacher. External factors included organizational and environmental situations. Each factor, having its own dimensions and features, entailed some challenges for nursing teachers to attain teaching competency. Despite these challenges, nursing teachers' interest in nursing profession and their viewpoint toward the concept of competency played the most important role throughout their competency attainment process. Conclusion: Individual characteristics of nursing teachers and their viewpoints toward nursing and teaching competency concept, affect these teachers' experiences in attaining teaching competency. If nursing teachers consider individual factors positively, the role of social, environmental, and organizational barriers will act marginal in competency attainment process and nursing teachers will go through successfully. Therefore, paying attention to these factors in nursing faculty development could lead to helpful consequences in nursing education improvement.

In addition, nurses’ self-care is essential for their personal health, constant care of the others, and their professional progress (2). Most of the nurses suffer from various physical problems due to their work pressure (3). The results of a study demonstrated that 84.4% of nurses experience musculoskeletal disorders and only 30.3% of them follow their treatment and procrastinate treatment seeking until the symptoms get acute (4). The health-related procrastination (HRP) is an unnecessary delay in performing the duties, despite the initial intention for beginning or terminating those duties, which is frequently associated with negative emotions and individual dissatisfaction. HRP should have a stronger and more absolute relationship with health outcomes such as health status, compared to general procrastination (5). Although procrastination is not constantly considered a problem, it frequent...

The initial interaction between mother and neonate most often begins in the hospital and can be influenced by neonatal nurses, so it is necessary to clarify this concept in nursing. The purpose of this study was to show the basic characteristics and practical definition of maternal role attainment in mothers with term neonate in a new context. Materials and Methods: This study used a hybrid model three-step concept analysis: theoretical, fieldwork, and final analysis phases. At theoretical phase, articles indexed in credential databases were searched using keywords. Totally, 33 articles were analyzed. At fieldwork phase, 12 participants were interviewed. At final phase, the findings of the two earlier phases were analyzed. The study lasted from August to November 2018. After determining the attributes, antecedents, and consequences, a final definition of maternal role attainment was introduced. Results: The concept of maternal role attainment was defined as "a developmentally, interactive, adaptive, and committed multi-dimensional process based on the discovery of pregnancy, characteristics of the mother, receiving social support, which leads to maternal identity, formation of maternal skills, resiliency, development of newborn, improvement of mother-newborn interactions and increased well-being of the mother". Conclusions: This study identifies the concept of maternal role attainment in nursing, providng a good basis for evaluating and applying this concept.
