T... more Previous studies have suggested that anxiety disorders are more prevalent among women than men. The purpose of this study was to compare the metacognitive perspective of Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) in females with males. A cross sectional study was conducted on the high school girls and boys who have been affected by GAD. The sample consisted of 100 high school students (50 boys and 50 girls) selected by Generalized Anxiety Disorder Scale (GADS) and semi-structured interview. They filled the Metacognitive Thought Control Questionnaire (TCQ), and Anxiety Thoughts Inventory (AnTI). Significant differences were observed between girls and boys in anxiety thoughts (health anxiety, social anxiety, and meta-worry). Anxiety thoughts affect girls more than boys; they have more metacognitive beliefs about uncontrollability of worry and believe that worry must be avoided. On the other hand, positive beliefs in worry are more common in girls and punishment and meta-worry are being implemented as control strategies in girls more than boys. Metacognitive beliefs in uncontrollability, advantages and avoidance of worry may contribute to the higher prevalence of anxiety in females than males.

The aim of this study was to investigate the therapeutic efficacy of attachment-based intervention in a pediatric sample with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). Twelve participants, 10-12 years of age, were treated across an eight-week period. They had not been treated with either pharmacotherapy or psychotherapy previously and remained medication-free during the attachment-based therapy. This study comprised two groups of children: The experimental group, who received attachment-based intervention, and the control group, who did not receive treatment. All participants were assessed in terms of severity of OCD symptoms by administrating the Children's Yale-Brown Obsessive-Compulsive Scale before and after the experimental group had received the therapeutic sessions. The children were assessed again one month later. The level of children's depression, and attachment insecurity, as well as their mothers' depression, OCD symptoms, and attachment insecurity, were statistically controlled in this study. Multivariate analysis of covariance (MANCOVA) indicated that the OCD symptoms in children decreased significantly over the course of the therapy, and this gain was maintained at follow-up. The results of this study demonstrated that the attachment-based intervention was efficacious in alleviating the OCD symptoms. It is suggested that parental instruction in attachment-based relationships may help prevent young children from developing OCD symptoms in middle-childhood and adulthood.

Method: The sample included 150 divorce applicant couples and 155 ordinary couples (305 couples in total). Divorce applicants were selected from court clients using convenience sampling, and the normal group was selected using random multi-staged sampling from a number of high schools in the city of Isfahan. All sample couples were tested using Early Maladaptive Schema Scale (EMSs). For data analysis, discriminate analysis was used in addition to descriptive statistics method. Results: The schemas of mistrust-abuse, unrelenting standards and emotional inhibition with standard correlations of 0.67, 0.57 and 0.57 respectively, had the highest predicting power. From among demographic factors, only education and income had a significant predictive power for divorce (p<0.001). Conclusion: Divorce could be predicted based on early maladaptive schemas. Also, a model of divorce prevention and marital therapy based on the schematic therapeutic approach can be developed. In addition, the results of this research can be applied in clinical and counseling environments to help problematic couples and couples on the threshold of divorce.

Neoseiulus californicus (McGregor) is a biological control agent of spider mites that also preys on thrips. Little is known about the biology and life table of N. californicus fed on Thrips tabaci. We evaluated the development, survivorship and life-history parameters of the Boku strain of N. californicus feeding on first instar larvae of T. tabaci. Total prey consumption by protonymphs and deutonymphs were 3.85 and 3.50, respectively. Total prey consumption during the adult period in the Boku strain was 65.1 first instar larvae of T. tabaci. Ninety percent of N. californicus eggs hatched but just over 16% of newly hatched larvae attained maturity at 25°C. Developmental time was 9.00 days with T. tabaci as prey. Oviposition rate was 2.42 eggs/ female/ day. The average pre-oviposition, oviposition and post-oviposition periods were 3.54, 22 and 3.91 days, respectively. The low estimated intrinsic rate of natural increase (r m ) of N. californicus (0.041 per day with T. tabaci) was due to high juvenile mortalities.
