Fadwa El Guindi, Ph.D.
a former distinguished professor of anthropology
at Qatar University and head of the Department of Social Sciences.
In 2012, El Guindi was invited as an expert to the Qatar National Research
Fund at the Qatar Foundation. She was a professor at the University of
California, Los Angeles, and also taught anthropology at the University
of Southern California, the University of California, Santa Barbara and at
Georgetown University. After graduating from The American University
in Cairo in 1960 and the University of Texas, Austin in 1972, her expertise
on the Middle East brought her to the Clinton White House, and she
frequently gave lectures to diplomats assigned to the Middle East at the
Foreign Service Institute of the U.S. Department of State. At present,
El Guindi lectures internationally and is widely published in English, Italian,
French, Russian, Arabic, German and Spanish. She has made a number of
international award-winning anthropological films on Arab society, and is
the recipient of the Qatar University Distinguished Award for Research
Excellence in the Social Sciences. El Guindi has recently been elected as a
Fellow at the World Academy of Art and Science. She has just been honored with Lifetime Achievement Award by the SVA of the American Anthropological Association.
