However, limitations to Six Sigma's implementation process have been discovered that are related to Six Sigma's foundation in statistical methods. The limitations of Six Sigma are overcome by the advantages of a strategic CoP (Community of Practice). Therefore, this research tries to build a strategic CoP for implementing Six Sigma. The method for building a strategic CoP is suggested, and then a case study of a real company is presented.

The analysis phase identifying user requirements is the most important of these phases. Since unidentified defects in the early phase causes increased work and costs as development proceeds, the quality of analysis results affects the quality of the resultant system. Major tasks in the analysis phase are data modeling and process modeling. Research on building a knowledge-based system for data modeling have been conducted much, however, not sufficiently for process modeling. As a system environment with high user interaction increases, research on process modeling methods and knowledge based systems considering such environment are required. In this research, a process modeling framework for information systems with high user interaction is suggested and a knowledge based system for supporting the suggested framework is implemented. A proposed model consists of the following tasks: event anal...

In most cases, the decision making mainly depends on the cost analysis in terms that how we can make the products cheaper. However, for gaining company’s future compatibility, it is needed to consider not only cost aspect but also technology aspect and product operation ability from a company view. In this sense, previous researches mentioned importance and factors of the technological and operational aspect theoretically, but they are insufficient to apply the Make or Buy decision process in practice. Therefore, this paper describes a systematic methodology for Make or Buy decision to achieve company’s competitive advantage. The proposed methodology consists of three perspectives: technological, financial, and operational perspective. A case study of Company A, home appliance manufacturer, is performed to prove the effectiveness of the proposed methodology.

Furthermore, within those amounts of information, the information that meets with achieving the goal of each company should be selected and managed as a core competency, i.e. the knowledge, visible and invisible assets of the company. Knowledge management, as a tool of creating, sharing, and applying such knowledge, has pursued those requirements of companies and been studied by many researchers and consultants, especially focusing on the Knowledge Map'. It is said that a knowledge map is a powerful tool for scanning and managing the knowledge that exists in a company and that it is the most important part of establishing a knowledge management base. Until now, however, there have been no specific or practical models for establishing a knowledge map, in spite of the concern....

Consequently, each context-aware system has to be built from the ground up. It is important that context-aware systems share context data across different domains and with all devices or services. Therefore, context data in the context base is represented as ontology which represents a new paradigm for modeling and representing the context data in this research. In this paper, we describe a CBMS framework and a model of an ontology-based Context Base. CBMS consists of 3 modules which are a browse module, a logical module and a physical module. A business trip request system has been implemented as a prototype. Traditional databases and DBMSs have limitations adapting to a ubiquitous computing environment. As context-aware services develop further, the necessity of a uniform framework of Context Base and ...

In the telecommunication service area, Churn is a serious problem. Data mining techniques are commonly used to predict churn probability. In this paper, we propose a hybrid approach, CBR with SAGA(Simulated Annealing and Genetic Algorithm) approach, for predicting the churn rate of a telecommunication service company. Case-Based Reasoning is rapidly emerging AI technology that can use past experiences to solve current problems. Genetic Algorithm can be described as a mechanism that mimics the genetic evolution of a species. The basic idea of simulated annealing originates from thermodynamics and metallurgy. This annealing process is mimicked by a local search strategy. In this hybrid approach, SAGA determines weight vector of CBR using SAGA learning. Churn rate prediction results are compared to other approaches - Logistic Regression and CBR with GA. An architecture of a ...

Therefore, the needs of diagnosing knowledge sharing activities in CoP have been increased. Previous researches about CoP strategies, which are usually suggesting general guidelines without diagnosis of current status, are not sufficient to diagnosing individual CoP. Furthermore, diagnosis methodologies are not connected to strategic direction or take too much time and effort to conduct regularly. The purpose of this paper is to develop sustainable diagnosis framework for identifying knowledge sharing activities in CoP using Social Network Analysis(SNA) and to suggest strategies for individual CoP based on proposed diagnosis framework. And the last, we applied proposed diagnosis framework to the industry case.

However, companies often have problems in identifying which capabilities need to be concentrated upon to gain a future competitive advantage. This paper suggests a methodology to identify the most important future events and to extract the key capabilities needed in a future environment for technology exploitation with a case study of smart grid company. It can help investment decision to develop capabilities according to the priority of capabilities and select the appropriate alternative for technology exploitation.

After analyzing knowledge sharing activities of 4,414 members from 59 CoPs, we confirm that while only a small number of CoP members actively engage in both transferring and receiving knowledge, most experts are not core players and they are reluctant to share their knowledge with others. We also find that only few CoPs can be classified as knowledge “ sharing ” community while most of CoPs suffer from inactive participation of employees with high expertise and are diagnosed as having at least one of master-apprenticeship and knowledge drain bottlenecks. Interestingly, we also find that CoPs members in field division such as Iron&Steel, Rolling, and Maintenance department more actively participate in knowledge sharing than ...

After preliminary review of related literature, features specific to ubiquitous computing technology have been retrieved, selected in terms of main elements of information system (IS) (network, device, user interface, and operating system), and further used as variables during conducting factor analysis. Quantitative data was collected through questionnaire approach. The results of factor analysis manifested 5 factors containing 15 variables, and eventually, based upon the extracted factors the requirements for ubi-IS were identified.

Without collaborations, access to partner’s knowledge or skill would probably be restricted and innovation among organizations could not be realized. Collaboration is also an important success factor for organizations in the project management area. Many companies collaborate on a project with partners for the accomplishment of strategic goals. However, to date, a research on project management has tended to focus on the tools of management. For example, the Gantt chart, Risk classification and Prototyping, instead of making an effort to increase collaboration between the owners and contractor organizations during the project. The main objective of this paper is to present an inter-organizational collaboration model based on CoP during the period of project management. Thus, the model demonstrates that project management through collaboration is critically essential...
