In this art-as-research project, I ask if we view, experience, and photograph nature differently ... more In this art-as-research project, I ask if we view, experience, and photograph nature differently today because of the visual standards of imagery set by the greater community on social media. The entrenchment of new technologies and use of social media, has fostered an unprecedented dominance of the visual in society. We take pictures of everything from our dinner and quotidian events in daily life, to using photos as a notebook, and to taking perfect selfies and portraits of those we love. We also take pictures of nature and scenery, share them, and receive likes and shares as confirmation. Through this process, we teach ourselves how to frame nature. Conceivably, we increasingly frame nature as an idealised aesthetic experience, one that boarders with the unreal, the staged, and the inauthentic.
