The disease has spread worldwide quickly and can lead to death in just a few days. In this context, investigating rapid forms of detection that assist doctors in the decision-making process is essential to saving lives. This paper investigates fourteen Convolutional Neural Network architectures using Transfer Learning. We used a database composed of 2,902 radiographs divided into three classes: Normal, COVID-19, and Viral Pneumonia. The results showed that DenseNet201 presented the best results regarding the classification reaching an average Recall of 92.1% and an F1 Score of 95.1%.

Two approaches are suggested: an embedded offline and a running online model via web API. To present the applicability of the mobile software, we used a CNN COVID-19 classification based on X-ray images as a case study. Still, any other image-based classification application could have been used. We used a popular Kaggle database consisting of 7178 X-ray images divided into three classes: Normal, COVID-19, and Viral Pneumonia. We tested 14 state-of-art CNNs to decide which one to embed. The VGG16 achieved the best performance metrics; therefore, the VGG16 was embedded. The software production methodology was applied based on the built model, class diagram, use cases and execution flow, besides designing a web API to execute the back-end classification model.

The illness has spread itself worldwide rapidly and can lead to death only in a few days. In this context, investigating fast ways of detection that help physicians in the decision-making process is essential to help in the task of saving lives. This work investigates fourteen convolutional neural network architectures using transfer learning. We used a database composed of 2,928 x-ray images divided into three classes: Normal, COVID-19, and Viral Pneumonia. Results showed that DenseNet169 presented the best results regarding classification reaching a mean accuracy of 94%, a precision of 97.6%, a recall of 95.6%, and an F1-score of 96,1%, approximately.
