[EN] In rice cultivation, straw is one of the most difficult waste to manage, generating on average approximately 5-7 t ha-1 of straw, after harvesting the grain. Traditionally straw has been burned. In recent years, this has been questioned from an environmental point of view. For many rice producers it is the simplest practice because of the high cost that its withdrawal and its possible use generates. In addition, burning releases nutrients such as nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium and amorphous silica, destroys certain weed seeds and some phytopathogens. On the contrary, this practice generates a high temporal concentration of emissions, composed of suspended particles, carbon monoxide, methane, nitrogen oxides, sulfur oxides, hydrocarbons and dioxins. All of this causes local contamination problems and increases the risk of acute respiratory problems, as well as asthma or allergies in the population. In different world regions this practice has been restricted, as it is the case of the Albufera de Valencia. For this reason, possible alternatives are being sought. The objective of the work is to analyze the information available, both scientific and informative, to clearly define the possibilities that currently exist to take advantage of rice straw through a sustainable practice, from the environmental, economic and social point of view. On the other hand, emphasis will be placed on its use as vegetable cover or vegetable "mulch" in certain crops. It immediately protects the same from weeds, promotes greater soil moisture and protects against certain frosts. With the conclusions drawn on the yield of the crops where this alternative has been implemented, some recommendations will be made to solve the problem raised.Rochina Rodríguez, E. (2020). The core of this paper is a practical implementation of an algorithm for object detection and tracking. The ability to detect and track fast-moving objects is crucial for various applications of Artificial Intelligence like autonomous driving, ball tracking in sports, robotics or object counting. As part of this paper the Fully Convolutional Neural Network "CueNet" was developed. It detects and tracks the cueball on a labyrinth game robustly and reliably. While CueNet V1 has a single input image, the approach with CueNet V2 was to take three consecutive 240 x 180-pixel images as an input and transform them into a probability heatmap for the cueball's location. The network was tested with a separate video that contained all sorts of distractions to test its robustness. When confronted with our testing data, CueNet V1 predicted the correct cueball location in 99.6% of all frames, wh...

An important challenge in the incorporation of power factor correction and fast dynamic output response is low-cost power electronic hardware. This paper describes a novel and simple DC-UPS structure, which offers excellent characteristics in terms of cost, size, and efficiency, taking into account a reduced number of power semiconductors. A complete analysis and design considerations are presented in such a way that the before-mentioned characteristics are achieved. An experimental prototype was built to verify the converter characteristics, and the obtained experimental results are also included.

The proposed converter includes the offline-online concept, which avoids the continuous charging and discharging of the battery as it occurs in a typical online UPS. Analysis and design considerations, as well as simulation and experimental results, are given in this paper. Index Terms-Battery charger, boost inverter, high power factor, uninterruptible power systems (UPSs).

The doubleconversion configuration has three stages, but normally, only two stages are operating at the same time. The first stage of the proposed scheme integrates the power-factor-correction stage and the battery charger of the double-conversion configuration, obtaining a two-stage UPS. The second stage is based on the theory of inverter with boosting capabilities. The battery set has not only been completely isolated, but it has also been charged with a small change at the controller set point; these particular characteristics facilitate the system maintenance and simplify its operation. Additionally, the battery-set voltage is low, reducing the weight and size. The converter operation, analysis, design, and experimental results are shown. The proposed UPS approach is practical in low-power applications (≤ 500 W). Index Terms-Battery chargers, boost inverters, high power factor, uninterruptible power systems. I. INTRODUCTION A N EXTERNAL uninterruptible power supply (UPS) is perhaps the typical approach in order to provide continuous energy supply to personal computers, medical equipment, telecommunication systems, control systems, etc. [1]. A wide selection of UPS single-phase topologies has been proposed in the literature [2]-[9]. Topologies with multiple stages are presented in [2]-[5]. Schemes with high power factor and more than three stages are shown in the work of Lee et al. [2] and Morrison and Egan [3]; these systems have the disadvantage in the semiconductor count and its efficiency. De Rooij et al. [4] proposed a three-stage scheme: one of the stages provides isolation with a rectified output-voltage form, the second one corrects the power factor in normal mode and delivers the battery-set energy in the backup mode, and the last one is a simple polarity inverter (Fig. 1); the disadvantages of this scheme are that the battery set has Manuscript

The proposed circuit uses three bidirectional switches operating at low frequency and a half-bridge inverter operating at high frequency. It also uses an inductor in order to make the current modulation. Because only 3.7% of the total power delivered to the load is processed by the injection network, the proposed converter offers high efficiency, and not only a high power factor is obtained but also the total harmonic distortion is reduced. Operation, analysis, simulation, and experimental results are shown in this paper.
