The whole process described includes: the survey planification and data acquisition with a Terrestrial Laser Scanner; the processing and cleaning of the point cloud; the 3D mathematical modelling; a proposal for semi-automatic modelling of organic elements; and the import of the final model into a BIM environment. Rhinoceros (McNeel) and Revit (Autodesk) are the main programs used. The crucial aspect of this workflow is found at the moment of importing the geometrical model into Revit, having to accommodate the criteria of this program in terms of tolerances, geometric structure of the solids, incompatibilities with NURBS libraries, etc. The result is a BIM model divided into families and subcategories where visual attributes can be assigned per element, parameterized and other visual information can be added (orthophotographs, wireframe analysis drawings, etc.). In other words, a 3D model from which highly configurable advanced representations (plans, vertical sections, perspectives, isometric exploded view, etc.) can be obtained and with which to generate analyses from the field of Architectural Graphic Expression.

Available ‘=I dosimetry data describe the effects of replacing tbe entire water medium by heterogeneous material. This work extends our knowledge of tissue heterogeneity effects to the domain of bounded tissue heterogeneities, simulating clinical situations. Our goals are three-fold: (a) to experimentally characterize the variation of dose rate as a function of location and dimensions of the heterogeneity, (b) to confirm the accuracy of Monte Carlo dose calculation methods in the presence of bounded tissue heterogeneities, and (c) to use the Monte Carlo method to characterize the dependence of heterogeneity correction factors (HCF) on the irradiation geometry. Methods and Materials: Thermoluminescent dosimeters (TLD) were used to measure the deviations from the homogeneous dose distribution of an ‘“I seed due to cylindrical ...

Despite known roles for the retromer in multiple trafficking events in yeast and mammalian cells, its role in development is poorly understood, and its potential function in primary ciliogenesis remains unknown. Using CRISPR-Cas9 editing, we demonstrated that vps-26 homozygous knockout C. elegans have reduced brood sizes and impaired vulval development, as well as decreased body length which has been linked to defects in primary ciliogenesis. Since many endocytic proteins are implicated in the generation of primary cilia, we addressed whether the retromer regulates ciliogenesis in mammalian cells. We observed VPS35 localized to the primary cilium, and depletion of VPS26, VPS35 or SNX1/SNX5 led to decreased ciliogenesis. Retromer also coimmunoprecipitated with the capping protein, CP110, and was required for its removal from the mother centriole. Herein, we characterize new roles for the retromer in C. elegans development and in the regulation of ciliogenesis in mammalian cells, and suggest a novel role for the retromer in CP110 removal from the mother centriole.

Calendar year 2020 marks the 7th year of our service to the Journal. Jeff was the first Editor-in-Chief to have been offered a full-time compensated position; and was the first to distribute this commitment among three co-equal editors by recruiting Shiva Das as the Therapy Physics Editor and Mitch Goodsitt as the Imaging Physics Editor. We are grateful to the AAPM for entrusting the leadership of its flagship scientific journal to us and providing us this unique opportunity to serve the worldwide medical physics community. Without a doubt, serving as Medical Physics Editors has been among the most personally rewarding and intellectually transformative experience of our careers. It has been our privilege to witness and facilitate dissemination of cutting-edge medical physics research, which encompasses a broad and ever-enlarging range of topics, clinical applications, and methodologies. All three of us have improved our analytical and integrative reasoning skills, and have acquired the ability to quickly discern and articulate the basic concepts and principles underlying research tools and problems well outside our expertise domains. We shall forever be better scientists, teachers, and scholars because of this growth experience. We are also grateful for the opportunity to interact and build friendships with the leading thinkers in medical physics and imaging science around the world, often in intellectually and geographic areas remote from our own personal research domains and collaborative networks. Perhaps most rewarding of all have been the many opportunities to help authors, especially trainees and junior investigators, to improve the quality of their scientific work and submissions. It has also been rewarding to facilitate career advancement of early career investigators by recruiting them to service and leadership positions within the Medical Physics Editorial Board and its subcommittees. Finally, we will miss our outstanding AAPM and Wiley colleagues, many of whom we work with on a weekly and sometimes daily basis. Thus, we are sad to leave this incredibly busy but stimulating professional environment as we rejoin the "civilian" academic workforce. Overall, we editors take pride in having steered Medical Physics along a mostly positive trajectory of over the last 7 years. Building on the achievements of past editors, in particular John Laughlin, Colin Orton, and William Hendee, the Journal has grown in terms of impact, academic stature, readership, and overall visibility. It is a relatively rapidly executed sketch depicting a Renaissance urban setting, in which the authors not only demonstrate the sound use of one-point perspective, an extraordinary feat in Spain at that time, but also reconstruct it geometrically. Raking light photography provides a tool for identifying numerous incised lines, the true geometric support for the drawing, while a comparative analysis reveals a significant connection between the drawing and Siloé's works, giving rise to new suppositions. The authors also detect a strong connection with Italy, consistent with existing hypotheses about the extent of the young Siloé's Italian sojourn. The research conducted reinforces the attribution of the drawing to Siloé and opens up new channels for interpreting his life and work.

The vault represents an outstanding synthesis between the Late Gothic diagonal ribs and severies and the emerging systems that adopt the form of orthogonal grids and tend towards a unitary volumetric composition. The work reflects the coexistence of two different architectural languages in Andalucía in the first half of the sixteenth century, a transitional situation which, in our view, Riaño deliberately embraces in his design. Based upon rigorous photogrammetric mapping, this paper analyses the formal and geometric characteristics of this exceptional work. The analysis conducted reveals that this was not simply an experiment with form, because beneath their singular appearance the geometric designs point to the investigation of new solutions.

The study was performed with the Canadian operational weather prediction Global Environmental Multiscale (GEM) model coupled online with the photochemical stratospheric chemistry developed at the Belgian Institute for Space Aeronomy, described in Part I. Here, the Canadian Meteorological Centre’s operational variational assimilation system was extended to include errors of chemical variables and cross-covariances between meteorological and chemical variables in a 3D-Var configuration, and we added the adjoint of tracer advection in the 4D-Var configuration. Our results show that the assimilation of limb sounding observations from the MIPAS instrument on board Envisat can be used to anchor the AMSU-A radiance bias correction scheme. Also, the added value of limb sounding temperature observations on meteorology and transport is shown to be signific...

One typical example is pupil conjugation where an auxiliary lens is added to match the size of the area of the interest of the beam with the size of the entrance pupil of the SH used for measurements. In the present work, we address this problem in the framework of a numerical scheme for modeling the beam propagation. We calculate the wavefronts with exact ray tracing plus the fitting of the impacts so as to match a rectangular grid. This procedure allows the subsequent calculation of the Zs or, similarly, the pupil function at an arbitrary plane perpendicular to the optical axis. All the numerical methods and procedures have been implemented in MATLAB code and can be illustrated by running the MATLAB script for the setup configuration that is being considered. Several examples are presented to illustrate the previous ideas and to show the real capabilities of our procedures. They will help to clarify the issues actually found in practical setups for beam manipulation, often encountered in ophthalmic optics.

Additionally, humans can be unreliable, lose attention, and fail to complete critical steps that are required for smooth operations. In our group we have sought to break down the QA tasks into separate steps and to automate those steps that are better done by software running autonomously or at the instigation of a human. A team of medical physicists and software engineers worked together to identify opportunities to streamline and automate QA. Development efforts follow a formal cycle of writing software requirements, developing software, testing and commissioning. The clinical release process is separated into clinical evaluation testing, training, and finally clinical release. We have improved six processes related to QA and safety. PCT uses an application programming interface to check and compare data from the TPS and treatment management system (TMS). PCT includes a comprehensive checklist of automated and manual checks that are documented when performed by the user as part of a plan readiness check for treatment. Prior to and during PCT development, errors identified during the physics review and causes of patient treatment start delays were tracked to prioritize which checks should be automated. Nineteen of 33 checklist items were automated, with data extracted with PCT. There was a 60% reduction in the number of patient delays in the six months after PCT release. PCT was successfully implemented for use on ...
