NPOs have an orientation toward social mission and values, and they consider not only organizational efficiency and viability, but also the social impact of the organization. This research provides a comprehensive synthesis of PMSs in NPOs. Design/Methodology/Approach: Using a literature review, supported by bibliometric and network analyses. A paper set of 240 articles related to this research field is examined. Topics that are the most prevalent in this research area and their interrelationships are identified, presenting an outline of current efforts. Findings: Despite the descriptive analyses for the paper set, a framework is proposed for organizing the design-implementation factors of PMSs in non-profit organizations, identifying the main requirements for their successful development. Originality/Value: Investigation on performance measurement in non-profit organizations is still in its early stages of development with many opportunities to further develop the field. Conceptual frameworks and models, as well as specific theories, are being generated for this field of research, and the process of adapting models from the general field of performance measurement is taking place. The meta-framework that organizes the main research topics of PMS in non-profit organizations and the framework that consolidates factors that influence the design-implementation of PMSs in non-profit organizations developed represents this paper contribution.

Together, they have the responsibilities of doing right (quality advantage), fast (speed advantage), timely (reliability advantage), quick setup (flexibility advantage) and affordability. In addition, they are close to several important activities such as: safety, environment, productivity, marketing, quality, reliability and accounting systems. With this new vision, changes and opportunities are being presented to these sectors of operation and maintenance. In the new paradigm, the maintenance and operation teams are motivated to strategically guarantee the full operation of the production system and not only to preserve the equipment. And, thus, to develop an efficient strategy, providing the sustainability and the increase of the assets of the company, reaching the goals of the planning and control of the production established by the company. The main objective of this work is to analyze a proposal to meet the required production demand through the alignment of production control planning strategies and maintenance planning and control. The analysis of the research points to some significant contributions, for example, to the areas of strategy and logistics of organizations that work mainly in environments with a high level of competitiveness. Through a case study, the analysis pointed to the positive impact of alignment on parameters such as:

However, historically, it has been proved that this industry is operating not significativelly well in terms of efficiency related performance. The objective of this work is to justify the adoption of Lean Construction, as a comprehensive alternative for addressing problems related to resource and systemic productivity. To frame the productivity problem, the work analyzes the productivity of this sector, using the production function of Cobb Douglas, which is an econometric concept that provides information to assess relationships between the total volume produced, and the resources that are used during the production process. The present work has analyzed biggest companies in the world of civil construction, all of them listed in the Forbes 2017 publication. The production function analysis shows that these organizations are experiencing return...

In the healthcare sector, hospitals have faced considerable demands: tougher legislation and ongoing pressures for cost reduction and improved quality, which have forced them to re-examine the performance of their operations and processes. Hospitals deal with a significant amount of hazardous and non-hazardous materials and generate polluting outputs. Moreover, in developing countries such as Brazil, healthcare operations involve high costs for provided services, limited productive resources and lack of public expenditure. Frameworks that directly address the measurement of environmental performance are regarded as crucial to address these demands. This study involves a bibliometric review of literature on the topic ‘hospital environmental performance measurement’ during the period 1987–2017, i.e., since the publication of the Brundtland Report. A certain prevalence of studies placed in high-income countries was found. Nevertheless, a growing focus on the specific context of developing countries was also identified. The content analysis revealed that the proposal and testing of frameworks for the measurement of environmental performance in hospitals is still an unsolved issue.

One of these frameworks is the digital twin, which enables abstractions of a physical resource in the virtual space, allowing for behavior simulations and performance assessments. Consensus regarding which key features manufacturing digital twins should encompass has not yet been reached. This study summarizes a variety of features proposed by recent models in the literature. Four features are identified, followed by expert analyses that assess how valuable they are to the success of implementations.

Design/methodology/approach A two-step approach was used in this research work. A systematic literature review (SLR) was used to find relevant references related to Hoshin Kanri that could serve as sources for recommendations. After completing the SLR, content analysis was used to define the recommendations and analyze them, deriving a set of guidelines. Findings A collection of recurring topics was identified through content analysis. These topics can be interpreted as central aspects for Hoshin Kanri application. Topics were eventually categorized and one guideline was developed for each one of the categories, which resulted in a total of 23 guidelines. Guidelines were grouped in two dimensions (context and process) and a...

Classical approaches on Enterprise Interoperability Assessment (EIA) do not identify (clearly) structural elements regarding the composition of their performance measures. Not all frameworks assess a set of specific measures for their respective models regarding the interoperability perspectives and also the organizational performance. The Performance Measurement Systems (PMS) have reached a higher level and maturity, and the implementation of such recommendations in EIA measurement systems may contribute to a better qualification, foreseeability, and standardization of the measures’ composition. The objective of this paper is propose a PMS-based model, in which a set of recommendations, applied to the EIA, enables the superqualification of these performance measures, contributing to a better relationship with the business layers and maintaining the original structures prescribed in the EIA literature.

Therefore, it is suggested a business perspective on value recovery through reuse of the whole product (Kleindorfer et al. 2005). As Kleindorfer et al. (2005), internal strategies for the future should be focused on investment in capabilities to recover substances causing pollution, to develop substitutes to non-renewable inputs. The recycling of waste is a prerequisite for sustainability since the generation of waste is inevitable in the industry. The potential benefits of recycling to society are, among others, the preservation of natural resources, energy-saving, reducing the volume of the landfill, reduce pollution, creating jobs, reducing the cost of environmental control by industry, increased durability and even foreign currency economy (Angulo et al. 2001). Ayres (1989), suggests that companies must find better ways to convert waste from one industry to be used in other sectors. Among these stand out waste mineral ashes from different agro-industrial activities, these, have high percentages of silica and other oxides, which can then be used as a pozzolan. The pozzolan property is its ability to react with the calcium hydroxide released during the cement hydration

Corporate sustainability is about incorporating sustainability practices into business strategy, ... more Corporate sustainability is about incorporating sustainability practices into business strategy, which is paramount for a company's development. It emphasises the search for a balance of the economic, social and environmental perspectives. The strategic adoption of sustainability practices changes management and organisational characteristics. Nonetheless, the question that remains is whether the opposite can happen. The study aims to match some of the characteristics of a sample of companies with sustainability strategy. A multinomial logistic regression analysis was used for the collected data. Data from five companies' characteristics were used as independent variables and related to 15 aspects of corporate strategy and sustainability practices as dependent variables. The results show that sustainability is definitively in the strategic agenda; it has an important influence in the competitive strategy of the studied companies.

Although It has widely been used in prototypes development, either low or very low scale production are also able to incorporate such technologies nowadays. The application of additive manufacturing in large scale has been presented as a paradigm to be overcome. Nevertheless, the application of these technologies worldwide might affect production systems dynamics in addition to organizations structures. At the same way, applying additive manufacturing technologies in medium and large scale might also create either novel businesses models or improve marketing segments that were underestimated. For that reason, the main goal of this paper is to investigate the metrics applied in additive manufacturing to identify the main advantages and disadvantages of these scenarios in a systematic study which correlate the economic, social and environmental key points which provide current manufacturing companies to identify the suitability of each additive manufacturing technology in accordance with its business goals. Therefore, the sustainable metrics for additive manufacturing processes will prove that it is really a sustainable manufacturing. Moreover, these results were results of others preliminary studies which might open a new discussion topic among manufacturing companies.
