The aim of this research was to evaluate protected environments and substrates compositions in the formation of mangabeira seedlings. For this, two greenhouses with different screens were used, the first covered with aluminized thermo-reflective screen of 50% shading and the second with black screen of 50% shading. Inside the environments, were tested substrates derived from combinations of various proportions of bovine manure (M), soil (S), medium vermiculite (MV), super fine vermiculite (FV) and fine sand (FS). For each environment of cultivation was adopted a completely randomized design to evaluate the substrates, with five replicates of eight plants. The environments were compared by analysis of experiments groups. The results showed that both protected environments are suitable for mangabeira seedlings. In the aluminized screen is indicated for the formation of seedling in the substrate with 20% M + 30% S + 10% MV + 30% FV + 10% FS while in the black screen is indicated for seedlings in the substrate with 10% M + 30% S + 10% MV + 10% FV + 40% FS and with 10% M + 30% S + 40% MV + 10% FV + 10% FS.

Thus, the objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of reflective bench covers on the growth and development of different cultivars of basil, in pot and shaded environment. The treatments consisted of three reflective materials (aluminum thermal reflective mesh, shiny red and white coating on laminates), arranged on the cultivation benches, and two basil cultivars (green and purple). After 22 days under these environments, the number of leaves and nodes, stem diameter, plant height, relative chlorophyll content, fresh and dry masses of the aerial and roots parts were determined. The highest value of reflective photosynthetically active radiation was shown when using white laminate, followed by the red laminate and thermal reflective mesh. The green basil varieties sh...

In this study, we investigated the effects of organic substrate combinations of cattle manure (M), vermicompost (VC), and vermiculite (V) on the yield and quality of cherry tomato fruits. Cherry tomato plants of the cultivar Carolina were grown under greenhouse conditions in 5-L pots. The five investigated substrate combinations were as follows: (T1) 80% M + 10% VC + 10% V; (T2) 70% M + 15% VC + 15% V; (T3) 60% M + 20% VC + 20% V; (T4) 50% M + 25% VC + 25% V; and (T5) 40% M + 30% VC + 30% V. Plant growth, tomato yield, and physicochemical properties of the fruits were measured. The results showed that combinations of 50% M + 25% VC + 25% V and 40% M + 30% VC + 30% V led to the best growth and adaptation of cherry tomato plants, resulting in larger and more rounded fruits. The substrate containing 40% M + 30% VC + 30% V resulted in higher numbers of fruits per plant. Different substrate combinations did not affect the chemical quality of the fruit. Therefore, our study has provided valuable information on the use of organic substrates in cherry tomato production under protected environment conditions. Based on our results, the different combinations of cattle manure, vermicompost, and vermiculite used in this study represent excellent options for reducing production costs and re-using organic byproducts.

This study sought to evaluate the growth and formation of Syzygium cumini seedlings in several substrates. The experiment was conducted in a completely randomized design, with 13 treatments comparing different substrates (S) made with different proportions of bovine manure, subsurface soil, Bioplant ® , superfine vermiculite and fine sand. Growth variables of the seedlings, such as height, stem base diameter, mass and biometric ratios were evaluated. Substrates containing 10 to 30% bovine manure and 20 to 40% vermiculite, as in S7 (30%BM+30%SS+10%BP+20%FV+10%FS) and S9 (S9=10%BM+30%SS+10%BP+40%FV+10%FS), yielded the best seedlings with adequate values for diameter, mass and Dickson quality index. Substrates with the largest amounts of bovine manure (50%) showed the worst mass distributions. Substrates with high amounts of Bioplant ® or fine sand are not recommended for jambolan seedling formation.

Information about the production of high quality seedlings is essential for the implementation and the renewal of orchards. The objective was to evaluate protected environments and substrates for Achachairu seedlings. Two protected environments were evaluated, one covered with aluminized thermal reflector screen of 50% of shading and the other with Sombrite® of 50% of shading. Inside the protected environments were tested substrates derived from combinations of various proportions of cattle manure (CM), ravine soil (RS), medium vermiculite (MV), super fine vermiculite (FV) and sand (S). For each protected environment was adopted a completely randomized design with 5 replications of 5 seedlings. Protected environments were compared by analysis of groups of experiments. All substrates studied formed high quality seedlings for the implementation of Garcinia orchards, with low rates of aerial and root phytomasses, low rates between height and stem diameter, providing higher Dickson quality index. The Aluminet® promoted the best seedlings with larger shoot, root and total dry mass.

This study aimed to evaluate the effects of the shading level (0 %, 18 % and 50 %) and substrate composition on the formation of G. humilis seedlings. Four substrates (S) were evaluated combining different proportions (v:v) of soil (SO), cattle manure (CM), commercial substrate (CS), sand (SA) and fine grain vermiculite (FV): S1 = 0 % SO + 45 % CM + 20 % CS + 20 % SA + 15 % FV; S2 = 15 % SO + 30 % CM + 20 % CS + 20 % SA + 15 % FV; S3 = 30 % SO + 15 % CM + 20 % CS + 20 % SA + 15 % FV; S4 = 45 % SO + 0 % CM + 20 % CS + 20 % SA + 15 % FV. The experiment was conducted in a completely randomized design in each environment, being the environments compared by a joint analysis. The G. humilis seedlings with the highest quality were obtained in the environment with a 50 % shading screen. G. humilis seedlings do not grow when exposed to full sunlight and, therefore, the seedling production o...
