Steroid dependency is one of the handicaps in the management of these children. Thus, the early prediction of the disease course may improve treatment strategy. Demographic characteristics and laboratory parameters of 35 patients at the time of MCD diagnosis were retrospectively obtained from the hospital records. There were 23 (65%) patients with steroid sensitive (SSNS) and 12 (35%) with steroid dependent nephrotic syndrome (SDNS). There was a significant difference between the patients with SSNS and SDNS in terms of age at diagnosis, remission time, and mean values of platelet volume, low density lipoprotein cholesterol, uric acid, urine protein-to-creatinine ratio, total cholesterol and creatinine (p = 0.003, p < 0.001, p = 0.013, p = 0.006, p = 0.036, p = 0.02, p = 0.003, and p = 0.034, respectively). The only explanation of this observation is that the current-carrying wire creates a magnetic field around it. The strength of the magnetic field at any point near the wire depends on the strength of the current and the distance from the wire. Analysis of the magnetic field created by a long straight current-carrying wire has an important place in magnetism teaching. Therefore, the aim of this study was to develop a low-cost experimental setup to collect real-time data for the analysis of the magnetic field near a long straight wire.

Unless there is an organ involvement, the prognosis of HSP is excellent. In this study, we aimed to evaluate clinical and laboratory risk factors for organ involvement in patients with HSP. Method: Our study sample consisted of 95 children with HSP and 75 healthy controls. Clinical and laboratory parameters recorded at the first admission to the hospital were retrospectively evaluated. The neutrophil-tolymphocyte ratio (NLR) and platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR) were calculated based on the complete blood counts. Results: Leucocyte, neutrophil and lymphocyte counts, C-reactive protein, PLR, platelet distribution width, and NLR were significantly higher in the HSP group than in the control group (p=0.008, p<0.001, p=0.003, p<0.001, p=0.002, p<0.001, p=0.002, and p<0.001, respectively). In the HSP group, NLR, PLR and lymphocyte were significantly higher among the patients with renal involvement and those with gastrointestinal involvement. Neutrophil levels were correlated with renal involvement. Additionally, the older age onset of the disease and elevated antistreptolysin O (ASO) levels were associated with renal involvement. Conclusion: NLR, PLR and lymphocyte counts may be used as inflammatory indicators of renal and gastrointestinal involvement in HSP. In addition, the neutrophil count is associated with renal involvement. The older age onset of HSP and elevated ASO levels are risk factors for renal involvement in HSP.

The effort initially deals with resolution of physical structure and structural concepts/parameters of the devices and then resolves DC and AC responses of the inductors and capacitors. The resolutions are achieved by considering basic serious RL and RC circuits and resolving the circuits both theoretically and experimentally. As a result, an alternative teaching approach is offered and also a novel instructional material is developed and suggested. Some teaching clues are briefly inserted to guide teachers/instructors to reach a higher comprehension level. It is believed that the implications of the developed teaching material would be quite high and beneficial.

In addition, their opinions of The Star Game were examined. The study was conducted with a total of 54 prospective teachers in three groups. The Star Game was played in all three groups and data was collected using the Star Properties Concept Inventory and the Star Game Opinion Questionnaire. The conceptual understanding on the stars increased significantly in all three groups after the application. The Star Game was described as enjoyable, interesting, instructive, and promoting a positive classroom environment, and a valuable educational activity for the profession. Criticisms included the length of answers, the noise caused in the classroom, and the time required.

Noncardiogenic pulmonary edema caused by transfusion has been observed for almost 60 years. Today... more Noncardiogenic pulmonary edema caused by transfusion has been observed for almost 60 years. Today, we know this entity as transfusion-related acute lung injury (TRALI). TRALI is an uncommon but potentially fatal adverse reaction to transfusion of plasma-containing blood components. It is typified by dyspnea, cough, hypoxemia, and pulmonary edema within 6 hours of transfusion. Most commonly, it is caused by donor HLA antibodies that react with recipient antigens. It may also be caused by biologically active compounds accumulated during storage of blood products, which are capable of priming neutrophils. Without a "gold standard, " the diagnosis of TRALI relies on a high index of suspicion and on excluding other types of transfusion reactions. Although current definitions of TRALI depend on symptoms, laboratory parameters can aid in the diagnosis and frequently identify the causative donor unit. As our understanding of TRALI deepens, risk reduction or prevention may become possible. Recently, a 72-year-old man with peripheral vascular disease was admitted to our institution with an occluded right lower extremity arterial bypass graft and cellulitis of the right foot. On the second hospital day, 2 U of fresh frozen plasma (FFP) were ordered to correct an international normalized ratio of 1.73 before surgery. After transfusion of approximately 100 mL of the first unit of FFP, the patient became acutely short of breath, hypoxemic, and hypotensive. The transfusion was stopped, and the patient was given supplemental oxygen. A chest radiograph taken shortly after the onset of symptoms revealed bilateral pulmonary infiltrates. Intubation and mechanical ventilation were required to maintain adequate oxygenation, and vasopressors were needed to maintain adequate perfusion. A CBC count drawn approximately 1 hour after the onset of symptoms revealed a WBC count of 7,500/µL (7.5 × 10 9 /L), which was markedly decreased from 10,560/µL (10.6 × 10 9 /L) earlier that day. During the ensuing hours, the patient became anuric, and after several hours of maximal support, the family decided against further resuscitative measures. Shortly thereafter, the patient became asystolic and was pronounced dead. Autopsy revealed edematous lungs with a combined weight of 2,780 g. Histologic examination revealed neutrophilic aggregates throughout the pulmonary, central nervous system, hepatic, and renal vasculature. Investigation of the implicated unit of FFP revealed that it was from a multiparous female donor with class I and II histocompatibility antibodies.

The participants in the study were 179 students (44 female and 135 male) attending Izmir Vocational School who were enrolled in the Analog Electronics Course. The data of the study were collected by means of three open-ended questions and semi-structured interviews. In the questions, students were given a graph of an AC signal and asked to draw a signal with equal frequency but higher amplitude, a signal with equal amplitude but higher frequency, and a signal with a certain phase difference. The main aim of the interviews was to provide a deeper insight into the difficulties detected in the analysis of the questions. The data analysis showed that the students confused the concepts of frequency and amplitude and had difficulties in interpreting the signals that exhibited a phase difference.
