Regular water supply to crops along with other inputs goes to a long way in increasing the production and productivity of the agriculture sector. The areas of Maharashtra like Sangli, Satara, Solapur, Vidarba, Marathawada are permanently declared as district which is less than state average. This argument can be proved with the irrigation ratio, as it is only 17%. The present paper is base on primary data, and an attempt was made to evaluate the change due to irrigation, agricultural pattern, and land use, use of technology and irrigation intensity. It also deals with socio-economic effects on the drought affected regions in general and the farmers of Upper Krishna river basin in particular, with special reference to Karad Taluka. The statistical data of the 72 % farmers are small and marginal farmers, whereas only 28 % of farmers hold land above 5 acres. The average land holding in the region is 4.42 % acres, overall skewed di...

Further, with the implementation of the branch expansion program, the national average population per bank office gradually decreased from 65,000 in June 1969 to 10,215 in June 2014. There is no doubt that this is a remarkable achievement. The growth in priority sector by public sector commercial banks (PSBs) has also increased by Rs 16,02,907 crore or 59.0 per cent in 2013-14, an increase of Rs 12,83,411 crore or 36.3 per cent over the same period last fiscal. Bank lending increased significantly. Due to sincere and conscious efforts to increase credit flow in priority sectors, the progress made by these banks towards agriculture, small scale industries, small creditors and other weaker sections of the society has increased significantly.

Today in India, as in many other developing countries with a rich agricultural tradition of their own, the words ‘improved agriculture’ and ‘progressive agriculture’ have become synonymous with the spread of HYVs grown with ever-increasing doses of chemical fertilizers and pesticides. For cultivation of agriculture, various inputs or practices can be substituted in varying degrees for producing a given output. A producer has to choose a particular combination of inputs, which would be most profitable or more income generated. B. The efficient scale of farm operation depends both on narrowly-defined scale economies in production, essentially a matter of irregularity of inputs and specialization of labour and on scale-related transaction costs in input and output markets, including both information costs and scale economies in transport and marketing. C. As like farm planning farm budgeting is equally significant. Budgeting is a method of analyzing plans for the use of agricultural...

The geographical area of the State is 30.8 million hectares, with cultivable area of about 22.5 Mha. Agriculture sector plays an important role in the state economy. According to the population census 2011, the total number of workers in the state was 42.10 million, of which cultivator and agricultural labourers together were 55.41 per cent. The major crops grown in the state include rice, jowar, bajra, wheat, pulses, cotton, sugarcane, several oil seeds including sunflower, groundnut and soybean, turmeric, onions and other vegetables. Maharashtra is also famous for its fruit production. Maharashtra gets rain both from the southwest and the northeast monsoon winds. The proportion of the rainfall derived from the northeast monsoon increases towards east. The average rainfall of the State is approximately 1360 mm., nearly 88% of the total average rainfall occurs between June to September, while nearly 8% occurs between October to December and 4% after December. In Maharashtra, of the 5 river basin systems, only 55% of the dependable yield is available in the four river basins (Krishna, Godavari, Tapi and Narmada) east of the Western Ghats. These four river basins comprise 92% of the cultivable land and more than 60% of the population in rural areas. An approximate 49% of the area of these four river basins consisting 43% of the population is already considered as deficit or highly deficit in regard to water availability. Out of total, 45% of state's water resources are from West Flowing Rivers which are mainly monsoon specific rivers emanating from the Ghats and draining into the Arabian Sea. This water cannot be fully utilized as the average altitude west of the Ghats (Konkan) is 60 metres above sea level; the average height of the Ghats is more than 600 metres above sea level.

People are the real wealth of a nation. The first HDR was published in 1990. The HDI is a comparative measure of life expectancy, literacy, education and standards of living for countries worldwide. It is a standard means of measuring well-being, especially child welfare. It is used to distinguish whether the country is a developed, a developing or an under-developed country, and also to measure the impact of economic policies on quality of life. B. The HDR 1995 introduced two new measures of human development that highlight the status of women. The first, GDI measures achievement in the same basic capabilities as the HDI does, but takes note of inequality in achievement between women and men. The methodology used imposes a penalty for inequality, such that the GDI falls when the achievement levels of both ...
