Cochlospermum religiosum (Linn.) Alston belonging to family Cochlospermaceae has been mentioned by the name of katira in ancient Unani literature. Different parts of the plant viz., Gum, Bark, Leaves, Flowers and Seeds are used as medicine among various ethnic and rural societies. Indian gum katira is the dried gummy exudate which is popularly known as Gond e katira in traditional Unani medicine. The parts of the plant are considered as demulcent, emollient, haemostatic, bulk laxative with good nutritional value in Unani medicine. This communication is an attempt to compile and document information on different aspects of C. religiosum mentioned in classical Unani as well as modern literature. The plant has been suggested to be taken up for further scientific investigations so as to validate the medicinal claims presented herein and to utilize its maximum therapeutic potential.

Available synthetic medicines have serious side effects, therefore, medicines of herbal origin have been extensively used in therapeutic management of hypertension for a long time. The present study aims to evaluate the comparative efficacy and safety of Unani drug UNIM-904 with an allopathic drug amlodipine in essential hypertension cases. The data presented in this work is a part of a multicentric, randomized and open level clinical trial conducted on 41 UNIM-904 and 61 amlodipine cases at

Banafsha (Viola odorata L.) is an important medicinal plant used in the Unani system of medicine due to its multiple therapeutic properties. Vast description of this herb is present in Unani classical literature regarding its therapeutic actions such as Munafith-i-Balgham (expectorant), Munawwim (hypnotic), Daf'-i-Hummā (antipyretic), Musakkin-i-Atash (Thirst Quenching), Mulayyin (Laxative) etc. Various phytochemical analyses have also shown presence of different alkaloids and chemicals in this herb proving its medicinal importance. Also parts of this herb have been studied in animals for its pharmacological properties and few pharmacological properties have been also studied in clinical trials confirming the description present in Unani literature. Based on the knowledge present in Unani literature, research should be conducted on untouched medicinal aspect of this herb.

Methods: This single-centric, randomized, twin arm, controlled, clinical trial was carried out on a totalnumber of 62 RT-PCR confirmed COVID-19 patients. The Intervention group (IG) receivedUnani Regimen (Khameera Marwareed and Unani Joshanda) in addition to the conventional management, while the Control group (CG) received only conventional management. Results: It was observed that 16 (51.6%) patients in Intervention Group and 3 (9.4%) patients incontrol group became negative for COVID-19 at day 7 and remaining 13 out of 15 (93.5%) patients in Intervention Group and 20 out of 28 (74.1%) patients in control group becamenegative for COVID-19 at day 14 .This effect of the Unani Regimen in comparison to thecontrol group was statistically signi...

Modern medicine still eludes satisfactory cure for this problem. Therefore, world is looking forward for some traditional medicines in this direction. In the present work, therapeutic efficacy of a Unani compound drug Habb-e-Asgand has been evaluated at Regional Research Institute of Unani Medicine (RRIUM), Aligarh, during 2016-2018. A total of 68 patients were selected from the lot of patients attending outpatient department (OPD). The drug Habb-e-Asgand was given 2 tablets for 84 days and results evaluated statistically by one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) followed by Dennett's' test. The results of the present study were evaluated on clinical, biochemical, and haematological parameters have amply demonstrated that the drug Habb-e-Asgand is therapeutically effective in the treatment of Waja 'al-mafasil (rheumatoid arthritis). The study has also shown the drug nontoxic and safe. Further studies are suggested in large population.

Unani Drugs quality is very important as safety of alternative medicinal plants has been questioned due to its side effects. In order to maintain the quality and efficacy of these drugs it is important to standardize them to keep away from adulterated medicines in the market. Some important issues related to Unani's quality have been addressed in this article, and a series of physiochemical parameters has been discussed to monitor the quality of a Unani poly-herbal formulation and to assess the quality of medicinal plant materials. We have also made an attempt to discuss the regulatory laws dealing with standardization and the need for their implementation as well as improvisions. Based on the literature reviewed, in our opinion three areas need immediate attention for strengthening Unani systems of medicine in India that are sharing of benefits, industrial investment and standardization of Unani medicines.

It is commonly a non-pathological symptom which occurs after inflammation of the vagina or cervix. In Unani system of medicine, the modern counterpart name for leucorrhoea is Sayalan al-Rahim. A huge number of drugs, either single or compound formulations, have been described for the management of Sayalan al-Rahim. Majoon Supari Paak is a polyherbal Unani formulation that contains twenty-five herbal ingredients, of which Foful (Areca catechu) is the main ingredient along with Zafran (Crocus sativus), Darchini (Cinnamomum zeylenicum), Zanjabeel (Zingiber officinalis), Qaranfal (Cinnamomum verum) and many more. The medicine has been used to treat leucorrhoea, as a uterine tonic and also to treat infertility along with different gynaecological disorders. The immune response to SARS-CoV-2 can play an important role in disease pathogenesis and clinica l manifestations. Considering the antiviral, immu no-modula tory, anxiolytic, antiinflammatory and antioxidant properties, this open labelled, controlled, interventional, prophylacti c study was conducted on individuals at risk in containment zones of different cities of India, viz., Lucknow, Aligarh, New Delhi, Srinagar, Mumbai and Bengaluru. The study focuses on number of patients turning COVID-19 positive, change in ISQ and WHOQOL-BREF scales in both the groups. Apparently, healthy individuals at risk in containment zones were divided into intervention and control groups. The intervention group was further divided into two subgroups. The first subgroup received Unani regimen-I including Unani Joshanda with Khamira Marwareed (KM), the second subgroup received Unani regimen-II including Unani Joshanda with Tiryaq Arba (TA). The control group did not receive any intervention. The duration of intervention was 20 days; follow ups were planned on day 10, day 20 and day 35. A total number of 33021 participants were enrolled in the study, of which 30,931 participants completed the study. It was observed that individuals receiving Unani regimen-I demonstrated lower risk of developing COVID-19 by 74% and those receiving Unani regimen-II by 62% in comparison to the control group. Interventional groups showed highly significant (p<0.001) effect on the quality of life.
