The authors provide recommendations to school administrators and educators on how to design a promising transitional context within classrooms and schools for EBs with disabilities. This article considers transition issues from multiple perspectives and urges secondary school educators to broaden their programmatic and teaching practices in order to increase successful transition of their multilingual students from school to work or to post-secondary education.

This study examined the results of teacher education faculty and preservice teachers being engaged in the integration of technology applications into teacher education coursework over a 2-year period. The instructional model for infusion of technology was guided by participants' varying developmental levels, collaborative strategies, constructivist pedagogy, and reflective practice. The study used a mixed method research design. Data were collected from all participants through survey instruments and reflective narratives. The themes that emerged add to the understanding of the processes essential to the construction of new levels of meaning when teacher educators and preservice teachers concurrently engage in the incorporation of a technology innovation to enhance the delivery of content. Five appendixes present data on: Net-a-Morphosis in teacher education courses; the ThinkQuest T3 catalyst grant exiting preservice teacher questionnaire; the final project reflection activity; the project faculty annual survey; participating preservice teachers' reflective themes; and Net-a-Morphosis in Teacher Education faculty reflection themes. This paper addresses components that one teacher preparation program is implementing in training multicultural, urban public school teachers in this critical shortage area. The Technology and TESOL degree works with existing courses in both disciplines which offer appropriate material for a unique combination degree to meet the specific needs of teachers who desire to use technology effectively in teaching ESL. All courses share the common theme of students' achievement with language acquisition through the integration of technologies into the teaching and learning process. The project engages students in inquiry and conversations about language acquisition and technology integration. Participants receive such services as systematic and ongoing advisement; literacy and test taking skills training; opportunities to participate in electronic bulletin board, bilingual chat room, and list serve discuisions; access to multicultural lesson plans; and interactive multicultural Web based portal learning space. They also attend interdisciplinary conferences and workshops. Participants are exposed to a variety of ways to use technology in teaching second language learners. (Contains 9 references.) (SM)

Audio tapes, classroom observations, and teacher interviews yielded data on the language used by the bilingual teachers. Data revealed information on the frequency of the use of English and Spanish, patterns of language use for each language, and differences in the way English and Spanish were used in the classroom. Implications for teacher preparation programs are discussed.

METHODS: We characterized the early Saturday morning TV advertisements aired by three broadcast network categories (U.S. English language, U.S. Spanish language, and Mexican Spanish language) in Spring 2010. The number, type (food related vs. non-food related), target audience, and persuasion tactics used were recorded. Advertised foods, based on nutrition content, were categorized as meeting or not meeting current dietary guidelines. RESULTS: Most commercials were non-food related (82.7%, 397 of 480). The majority of the prepared foods (e.g., cereals, snacks, and drinks) advertised did not meet the current U.S. Dietary Guidelines. Additionally, nutrition content information was not available for many of the foods advertised on the Mexican Spanish language broadcast network category. CONCLUSIONS: For U.S. children at risk for...

Results from a small field study inform the development project. Four high school students in an eCommerce course completed the standalone tutorial developed to teach them how to create a web page in the HyperText Markup Language (HTML). The four participants were also interviewed in an attempt to determine what motivates them to learn. Researcher observations of completed web pages indicated that the tutorial helped the four participants learn introductory HTML tags and, except for one revealing instance, they mastered the content without instructor assistance. Future work to develop an automated system for determining and correcting learner misconceptions evident in dysfunctional hyperlinks would provide additional support to learners. Lastly, this paper discusses implications of the field study results for the design and implementation of effective and compelling instruction.
