A haptic representation is created by adding the physical properties of an object to its geometric configuration. While research has been conducted into geometric modelling of fabrics, current systems require textile data to be manually entered into the computer simulation by a technician. This study explores the possibility of automatic generation of geometric and haptic models of real world textile samples. The development of a scalable and generic methodology for geometric and haptic modelling of plain weave textiles made from wool yarn is reported. This system has been successfully implemented using a step-wise procedure. Initially, an image of the textile artefact is captured. Then the critical features of the image are extracted from the image and deployed in a finite element model. The geometric model is augmented by adding physical properties of the textile and developing the haptic model. Two different haptic rendering procedures are implemented based on Reachin Application Programming Interface 3.2 (API). The developed methodologies are described and results obtained are provided

The CHESS studio, which housed a 16 speaker hemisphere for creating spatial sound, has been converted into an anechoic chamber and a new 3D speaker system has been designed. The recent work is a continuation of a successful crossdisciplinary research activity between the Faculty of Informatics and the Faculty of Creative Arts. Also reported are new research initiatives that will be taking place in the facility.

It had been in my mind for years to make the walk from new Paphos to old Paphos along the pilgrim’s way mentioned by the geographer Strabo in the first century. He wrote that every year ‘men and women came from other cities to celebrate all along the road’ from the port at new Paphos to the sanctuary of Aphrodite on the hill high above the coast. I tried to research the route by looking for the old ways through Yeroskippou, tracing the path through shrines as Stathis had suggested

Encrusted plaster with faint indications of colour and pattern still adhered to Wall 108. Other coarser fragments of red on cream were found in 1999 in the IR-IJ extension to the west. The extensive excavation of the western parodos area in 2001 (Trench IFF) revealed many more painted plaster fragments, some on curved sandstone blocks that had formed a vaulted ceiling, and some

Around 35 universities now offer research degrees in creative arts (Baker and Buckley, 2009). Accompanying this development, the teaching of art practice and theory has followed the humanities in embracing philosophies of semiotics and post-structuralism from Europe and America through the lenses of feminism and postcolonialism.
