Direct measurement methods of the sand mould properties during the actual moulding process are not adopted yet. Design/methodology/approach: In this work, a remote control system [1] have been integrated into a new flowability sensor [2]. Findings: To overcome the complexity of the tools and equipment that existed in laboratory, and in foundry. Research limitations/implications: In order to investigate, and control behavior of the moulding process of bentonite-bonded green sand process, the sensors have been equipped with the Bluetooth technology for a wireless transmission of the measured data to computers. Originality/value: This technique contributes to improve of the compaction process based on the non-destructive tests, enhances prediction of the optimum parameter conditions, and reduced the energy, and the compaction time consumed for the green sand moulding process.

In this study, influence of the solar radiation on the thermal storage capability of the pavement was investigated numerically by using a commercial finite element software. The numerical simulation depends mainly on geometry of the asphalt layer and glass cover. Effect of three parameters of the solar intensity, thickness of the asphalt layer and glass cover have been investigated. It is found that highest surface temperature reaches into 96°C of the pavement which has 100 mm thickness of the asphalt layer and 25 mm of the glass cover, and their surface exposed into 800 W/m2 of the solar radiation. In contrast of the asphalt thickness, increment of the glass cover thickness has a slight effect on enhancement of the pavement surface temperature. The purpose of placing the glass cover on the asphalt layer is lowering of the heat dissipation from the asphalt layer into the surrounding environment.

In this paper simple and efficient thermal system has been designed to utilize the available sun light by simple design of flat plate solar collector under different conditions which includes different climatic conditions and different types of plate materials. For each case of above it was found outlet fluid temperature, instantaneous efficiency and modifier angle factor.

The model of solar collector is treated with number of glass covers, CoverPlate air spacing and flow rate of water. The stagnet temperature of absorber plate was calculated. The calculations were carried out by using EES program in connection with Taguchi method and regression model. The outcome of fractional factorial design of experiments by Taguchi method was accomplished by Minitab 17 software.

These materials combine the high fracture toughness of Ti phase and the relatively low density of Al 2O3 and stand for candidate materials for harsh mechanical and thermal environments. The techniques of powder technology are utilized to fabricate these materials that composed of five graded layers of Al 2O3-Ti phases. Al2O3 increasing linearly across these layers (0, 25, 50, 75 and 100wt% respectively). The green specimens are composed of Al 2O3-TiH2 layers and the sintered specimens are composed of graded Al2O3-Ti. Spark Plasma Sintering technique is utilized for sintering of the graded green specimens. The best sintering conditions is found at 1500°C for 30 minute of sintering that gives apparent density of 4.25 g/cm 3 , porosity of 1.28% and diametric expansion of 1.58%. Optical microscopy shows gradual transition of phases at the interface of the graded layers.

The enhancement of the sand casting process is based on producing green sand castings with good pattern profiles and no failures at any complex points during the separation process, handling and transportation. This work introduces modified, non-destructive, direct tests for measuring sand mould properties using sensor readings. A new flowability sensor has been used to measure the time-dependent density, distance-dependent mould hardness, and distance-dependent mould strength. The sensor is able to detect sand motion at the desired points during the mould-making process. The live characterisation of the green sand mould is used to determine the optimum parameters for the compaction process, reduction of the moulding time, and spent energy, so that the cost of the moulding and casting process will be reduced. It has been found that there is a linear rela...
