It is widely traded by few actors, but its products occupy a small market share. The benefits of baobab products are yet to be communicated to consumers. This study aimed to examine awareness and attitudes of rural and urban consumers in Kenya towards baobab products. Data on socio-economic characteristics, baobab product awareness, and attitude towards baobab products was collected from 353 consumers in rural and urban markets in Kenya. A pretested questionnaire was administered to each consumer through personal interviews. Descriptives were used to analyse awareness level on baobab products. Zero-truncated Poisson regression model was used to asses factors influencing awareness of baobab products. Descriptive and exploratory factor analysis was used to assess the attitudes of the local consumers towards baobab products. The results showed a mean awareness score of 5.92 and 6.45 for urb...

This study examined factors influencing intensity of utilization of baobab products in Kenya. Data on socioeconomic , demographic characteristics, and attitude toward baobab pulp were collected from 353 consumers in rural and urban markets. Descriptive were used to describe consumer characteristics. Zero-truncated Poisson regression was used to analyze factors influencing intensity of utilization of baobab products. Exploratory factor analysis was used to assess the attitudes of consumers toward baobab pulp. The model results revealed that education level (p < 0.01) and household size (p < 0.01) negatively influenced the intensity of utilization, while years of product usage (p < 0.01), and awareness level (p < 0.01) had a positive influence. Exploratory factor analysis generated four factors that explained 61.16% of the total explained variance. "Availability, affordability, and income value" factor had the highest factor loading in the analysis, while "Trust and nutritive value" factor had the second highest loading. The study findings recommend strategies that could promote baobab utilization. This include; ensuring that baobab products are available, accessible, and affordable. Likewise, sustained product packaging, certification, and labeling are essential. Other promotional approaches include community nutritional

This study aims to determine the development of Technological Pedagogical and Content Knowledge (... more This study aims to determine the development of Technological Pedagogical and Content Knowledge (TPACK) biology education pre-service teachers using research-based biotechnology book equipped with a virtual laboratory. This research was conducted at the Biology Education Program-University of Jember, which involved 32 pre-service teachers who took the biotechnology course. This research applied Reflective, Recursive, Design, and Development (R2D2) design model and paired sample t-test to figure out differences between before and after using the developed product. The validation process involved six experts of content, media development, and user. The results of the book and virtual laboratory validation showed an average value of 86.17%, which is classified as a very valid category. The pre-service teacher response revealed an excellent value of 80.58%. Subsequently, a biotechnology book and virtual laboratory were used to test the TPACK competencies level of biology pre-service teachers. The paired sample ttest results showed 0,000 values, which means there were significant differences before and after the use of the research-based book and virtual laboratory developed. To summarize, a research-based biotechnology book equipped with a virtual laboratory can increase TPACK of biology pre-service teachers and recommend them as tools to teach biotechnology.

This paper examines the determinants of crop diversification and their gross margins. The study drew a sample of 72 smallholder farmers' through a multistage sampling technique. The primary data were collected using semi-structured questionnaires and analyzed using descriptive, gross margin, and logistic regression. Gross margin results revealed a significantly higher value of revenues for diversified cropping systems of farming (KES.54, 583.33) compared to non-diversified (KES.37, 250). The factors that influenced crop diversification were age, education of household head, type of crops, cropping system, amount of credit, and irrigation facilities. Based on our findings, the study suggests the need for the Government to promote the development of agricultural policy that supports the shift from non-diversification to crop diversification through developing guaranteed access to inputs and subsidies on farming input resources with priority given to smallholder farmers. Incorporation of both short and long duration crops. Strengthening of extension services with more training services focusing on cropping systems, viable crop enterprises, return from ABOUT THE AUTHORS Evans Kemboi is a postgraduate student in Agricultural Sciences, College of Post Graduate Studies in Agricultural Sciences, Umiam, Meghalaya, India.
