Contemporary organizations frequently employ projects to leverage work across organizational unit... more Contemporary organizations frequently employ projects to leverage work across organizational units, utilizing specialized knowledge from different areas of the organization to meet specific quality criteria in a defined time period, at a set cost. Project managers act as hubs of knowledge in directing projects and driving their success, often using technology for this purpose. To date, little is known in how far technology support this knowledge sharing in the project management. The paper aims to explore project managers' perceptions regarding their knowledge sharing and how this is supported by recent technology. The paper further explores benefits and challenges experienced by project managers when using the specific technology for their knowledge sharing. The research adopts the interpretive qualitative approach and collects data through semi-structured interviews with project managers using such a technology. 3 C's analysis was used to analyze the collected empirical material to generate 6 concepts. The concepts are then reviewed in context of selected theoretical framework, including the informatics domain model by Beynon-Davies. The findings indicate that the technology largely supports knowledge sharing of project managers, both presenting opportunities for more efficiency as well as new challenges. The technology leads to change in the modus of knowledge sharing and also individuals' approach: what, when and how knowledge is shared. This enhanced understanding contributes to existing theory and the insights can aid practitioners in development or introduction of technology in the workplace. The work also contributes to theory about how project managers can leverage knowledge across projects with the aid of such a technology as well as to project managers' and managers' work, such as to make efficient use of a technology and avoid certain challenges.

A literature review forms the theoretical basis of the research allowing to explore how education records are managed nowadays and the potential for the use of blockchain technology in this area. The theoretical framework is then used to discuss the research findings. The research adopts the interpretive qualitative approach and collects data through a focus group interview with university students. Computer assisted thematic data analysis yields five key themes: current usage of university education records, understanding how blockchain works, sustainability of blockchain, security of blockchain and implementation of blockchain for education records. Participants were generally positive towards the use of blockchain for the management of education records and saw it as one of the potential future solutions. Nevertheless, they voiced some reservations regarding the high energy consumption, costs and security towards a possible use of the blockchain technology. Therefore, careful implementation would be needed, with increased focus on usability, solving some security and sustainability issues and ensuring a fair and transparent access model. This research contributes to the current body of knowledge within informatics by empowering students to share their perception of possible development of student record systems based on blockchain technology. It also provides insights which can be used in the future to achieve a more user focused design of education records management systems.

However, nowadays the work environment in organizations is more complicated due to the information overload that employees experience on a daily basis. The information deluge requires employees’ swift attention, analysis, and action within a limited time. In response, Information Management aids organizations manage information and realize its potential. This literature review reveals that scholars have given various interpretations to the term according to the perspective (organizational, library, and personal) under which Information Management is examined. Additionally, the term is often used interchangeably with other terms such as knowledge management, data management, content management, etc. Within this multidisciplinary framework, the author presents various definitions of the meaning of Information Management, including a synthesis working concept, to guide her doctoral studies. Paper conclusions recommend an integrated approach to information management which combines the organizational and the library perspective of Information Management, as advanced by Detlor. This proposal emerges out of recognition that a library is a dynamic, living information and knowledge creation organization. Fulfillment of this potential requires that information processes are integrated in librarians’ daily work life in order to contribute to organizational learning. This paper could serve as a starting point for an exploratory research study on an integrated approach for Information Management that can contribute to organizational learning in library organizations.

The doctoral research approaches and conceptualises managers’ work as ‘everyday cooperative practice’, in this way adopting the computer-supported cooperative work (CSCW) approach. A focused-ethnographic study explores middle managers’ everyday cooperative work practices in two academic libraries, in Sweden and Australia, when using computational artefacts, including challenges experienced. The empirical data was collected through participant observations and formal and informal face-to-face interviews, as well as organizational documents review. The thematically analysed empirical material was presented as vignettes to enable complementary contextual visualisation of managers’ practices. A conceptual framework incorporated...

Main concepts such as knowledge, knowledge work, knowledge workers, innovation in knowledge work and digital technologies along with Socialization, Externalization, Combination and Internalization (SECI) model form the theoretical framework of this research which is used to discuss the research findings. The research adopts the interpretive qualitative approach and collects data through semi-structured face-to-face individual and group interviews. The collected empirical material that is analyzed thematically, yields eight themes which show that knowledge workers’ active interaction with knowledge supports the conversion from tacit to explicit knowledge back and forth. This assists the creation of new knowledge and, therefore, innovation in knowledge work; digital technolo...

Recognizing that information has long been an important asset for any organization, I wish to explore in depth the management and use of information in contemporary information-intensive organizations such as academic libraries. Additionally, this research proposal emerges out of recognition that the academic library is a dynamic, living information and knowledge creation organization. Fulfillment of this potential requires that information processes are integrated in the academic library's daily work life in order to contribute to organizational learning. However, the literature confirms that while academic library managers manage and use information as a commodity, they do not manage and use it as an asset for their organization which could lead to organizational learning. Through a systems thinking approach and drawing on the theories of information management, organizational knowledge creation and organizational learning, this interpretive ethnographic research study wishes to explore the perceptions of academic library managers regarding the management and use of information for the better operation and development of their organization. This research proposal serves as a starting point for an exploratory research study on Information Management that can contribute to organizational learning in academic library organizations.

This conceptual paper presents two core models, Informed Systems Leadership Model and Collaborative Evidence-Based Information Process Model, whereby co-workers learn to make informed decisions by identifying the decisions to be made and the information required for those decisions. This is accomplished through collaborative design and iterative evaluation of workplace systems, relationships, and practices. Over time, increasingly effective and efficient structures and processes for using information to learn further organizational renewal and advance nimble responsiveness amidst dynamically changing circumstances. Methods – The integrated Informed Systems approach to fostering persistent workplace inquiry has its genesis in three theories that together activate and...

Within the context of organizational learning, a collaborative user-centered approach is used to produce desired system characteristics and future research suggestions.More specifically, this research study explores the library users’ and academic librarians’ perceptions of the current library discovery and access services as mediated through the Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) of the Academic Library of the School of Philosophy at Athens University in Greece. Additionally, it explores their desired characteristics for the ‘public facing’ Integrated Library System (ILS), of which the OPAC constitutes a module, in order to generate recommendations that guide the Academic Library staff members’ collaborative design of a more user-centered library information system. The study is built upon the systems thinking framework of Checkland’s Soft Systems Methodology (SSM). Applied theories and design processes guide research processes aimed at advancing both inclusive social learning and system improvements.

More specifically, it explores library users' and academic librarians' ideal characteristics for the library discovery and access services mediated through the Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) of the Academic Library of the School of Philosophy at Athens University in Greece. SSM's applied theories and design processes guide the collaborative redesign of a more user-centered library information system. Recommendations discuss the efficacy of this approach, which expresses systems thinking and guides inclusive social learning, which reflect the characteristics of New Economy informatics.
