This system is based on observation of the learning behavior, i.e. the time spent for studying learning units and related test performance, and has a component to predict the learning outcomes of individual students during an online course and prior to final exams. The main objective of SOCKS is to give students an automatic and immediate response to monitored attendance and quiz/test results after having finished a learning unit composed of standardized learning objects. The prediction process is based on a statistical model of learning performance and test performance. The resulting response is an overview of student activities in various sections of the online course. The system not only monitors the learning behavior but also give comments and feedbacks to an individual student. It can deal with comprehensive as well as selective or topic driven tests based on random questions from a test repository. Results are given and discussed.

Basically it is an ontology-driven e-leaning system for Thai learning environment (O-DEST). The system comprises an ontology for the elearning process, such as course syllabus, teaching methods, learning activities, and learning styles. O-DEST helps teachers, students and administrative personnel to set up and maintain the course material as well as the course administration, to go through the learning content, and to administer student and teacher data. Ontologies for the knowledge domain specific teaching subjects will enable the usage of the teaching contents in the Semantic Web.

The term Distance Object Learning is used here for learning over a computer network or the Internet about real world entities that are distinguishable from others. The DOLE system concept uses standards for Learning Object Metadata (LOM) at different levels of abstraction. The objective of the resulting system is not only the correct and retrievable description of the course material covered by the LOM but also the further use of parts of the LOM data set for the generation of learning materials and students' learning development assessment, which can be represented by quizzes and tests.

Since names tend to show a certain intrinsic grade of variation this is even more the case for the transliterated or transcribed forms. Correct transcription and transliteration of names is one of the major problems in inter-cultural communication. Available standard "manual" transcription systems are often simply not used or are used inconsistently. Many computer-assisted systems are based on orthographic forms or pronunciation, rule based, and statistics-based approaches. In this paper we discuss the problems of Romanization, e.g. ambiguities of pronunciation as well as syllable and word segmentation. These problems can be considerable guidelines an implementation of backward transcription from English to Thai. In this paper the authors outline an approach which leads to a description of organizations and business, i.e. non-profit and profit organizations, with an emphasis on local or regional basis. For this, publicly available upper ontologies and business area and e-tourism ontologies are studied and used as appropriate, added by an ontology describing the concepts of locality, forming a Local Organizations and Business Ontology system (LOBO). As an example the authors set up an ontology for organizations and enterprises in Phitsanulok Province (Thailand). The system aims at establishing web based dynamic yellow pages as well as company and organizational histories with the help of the semantic web. Therefore the authors do not only use a spatial (regional, local) but also a temporal ontology. The ontology is implemented with Protege...

There are many elements of personal names which vary in and between the different cultures. Names such as personal surnames are the most important as they are used in many processes, such as identifying of people, record linkage and for genealogical research as well. On the other hand, variation of names can be a major problem for the identification and search for people, e.g. web search or security reasons. We show name variations for different cultures to guide the implementation of a rule based naming system, currently worked out for Thai names. We discuss characteristics of the LIG (Levenshtein, Index of Similarity Group (called ISG), and Guth) algorithms which help to find reasonable variants of names. A further benefit of this process would be an optimization for name searching.

The extended system aims at serving as an easy to use integrated search system for Semantic Web applications with spatial and temporal search components. Satisfactory tests have been made with a database of local organizations in Phitsanulok Province, Thailand.

In manual as well as in machine transcription in particular, names as such are of great importance when addressing people, locations, and objects. The ontological structure can be applied to compare the quality and coverage of standards used in the curriculum structures of any university based on TQF: HEd. For this, we harness ontology mapping in order to improve the standard curriculum, reduce related efforts and human resources, as well as reduce the operational process. This research has resulted in a prototype system that can be used to analyze the structure of courses in Computer Science programs for the framework and standards from the Office of Higher Education Commission (HEC). The example founded similarity values up to 98% and the system can evaluate results for improving the quality of future curricula.

But most patients do not follow good practices improving their physical condition. This can have negative effects on the patients' health. The inpatient health planning system aims at supporting patients in hospitals to have proper nutrition and appropriately regarding their physical condition. In this paper, we used an ontology for food management and nutrition knowledge with an expert system to derive meal plans with appropriate nutrition suitable for the patients' physical condition. Nonetheless, most patients do not have nutritious food which is suitable to their physical conditions. Because of a large number of patients, offering appropriate food for each patient can be difficult and time-consuming. The purpose of the study was to develop a system for the recommendation of appropriate food for inpatients. Case-based reasoning was used to recommend appropriate food for inpatients more suitably and rapidly, which was done by bringing case study of the former patients who had been cured to compare with the new patients in order to get the information for providing appropriate and healthy food for patients‖ physical conditions.

We use ontologies to design the structure of the contents and e-learning management in O-DEST. For the evaluation process of the O-DEST e-learning structure the UMES (University of Maryland Eastern Shore) online course learning object evaluation rubric for analysis and evaluation is used. We choose this standard because the structure of the underlying e-learning processes, such as in-structional activities, interaction, communication, and feedback, is quite similar. An assessment of the e-learning structure standard provides meaningful feedback for improving the quality and usability of the currently proposed O-DEST system approach. Although the system performs very well and does meet the UMES standards it has to take into account the atti-tudes and habits of Thai students more directly.
