Neutrosophic sets are relatively new extensions of intuitionistic fuzzy sets. The neutrosophic logic has been approved by many researchers in a short time. Especially, a significant acceleration in the number of publications on neutrosophic sets is observed after 2015. This chapter aims at classifying all these publications and to exhibiting the place of neutrosophic sets and logic in the literature. This is the most comprehensive and updated review on neutrosophic sets. Tabular and graphical illustrations are used to summarize the review results.

Storage policies address location assignment of stock keeping units (SKUs) in warehouses. An effective storage policy should not only provide the minimization of transportation and inventory costs, but also increase the level of service available to the internal and external customers. When selecting a storage policy, parameters cannot be frequently determined as crisp values. Fuzzy logic is utilized in many engineering applications so as to handle imprecise data. Moreover, information axiom, the second axiom of axiomatic design (AD), performs the selection of the alternative that mostly satisfies the functional requirements of decision makers. This chapter provides a fuzzy information axiom basis for storage policy selection. After providing background information about storage policies as well as storage assignment models, a fuzzy information axiom-oriented model is introduced. Then, the decision-making model is validated by an application in a company from automotive industry.

In case of incomplete and vague data, fuzzy confidence intervals can be used for decision making under uncertainty. In this paper, we develop interval-valued intuitionistic fuzzy (IVIF) confidence intervals for population mean, population proportion, differences in means of two populations, and differences in proportions of two populations. The developed IVIF intervals can be used in cases of both finite and infinite population sizes. The developed fuzzy confidence intervals are equivalent decision-making tools to fuzzy hypothesis tests. We apply the proposed confidence intervals to the differences in the mean lives and failure proportions of two types of radiators used in automobiles, and a sensitivity analysis is given to check the robustness of the decisions.

In many decision-making problems, the Decision Makers (DM) define their preference in linguistic form since it is relatively difficult to provide exact numerical values during the evaluation of alternatives. Therefore, in many studies, fuzzy logic is successfully used to model this kind of uncertainty. In this chapter, the authors try to capture this uncertainty by using interval type-2 fuzzy sets and hesitant fuzzy sets. They propose a fuzzy multicriteria method for the evaluation of renewable energy alternatives, in which the priority weights of the criteria are determined by interval type-2 fuzzy AHP, and the alternatives are ranked using hesitant fuzzy TOPSIS. A case study is also given.

In this study, we try to define and prioritize the requirements of an n online platform which can be used as a source for collecting feedback from stakeholders of an educating system. The involved stakeholders are the course content generators, teachers, students and families of the students. In the application three experts used linguistic terms to evaluate the performance indicators and the weights are calculated using Pythagorean Fuzzy Analytic Hierarch Process (AHP) Method.

Their simplicity and efficiency cause their frequently usage for the solution of multicriteria decision making problems. In this paper, we develop Pythagorean fuzzy scoring methods to be used under fuzziness. Pythagorean fuzzy sets have better powerful ability than intuitionistic fuzzy sets to model the uncertainty in MCDM problems. We present the numerical applications of the proposed methods.

In this chapter, engineering economy techniques are developed under fuzziness to be employed in environmental problems. Ordinary fuzzy sets, type-2 fuzzy sets , intuitionistic fuzzy sets , and hesitant fuzzy sets are handled in the development of fuzzy engineering economy analyses. For each of these fuzzy sets, an application related to environmental economics is given.

The independent components of a neutrosophic set are truth, indeterminacy, and falsity. In the literature, neutrosophic sets have been employed in the development of new extensions of multiple criteria decision making methods such as neutrosophic TOPSIS and neutrosophic VIKOR. In this chapter, a new Neutrosophic Analytic Hierarchy Process (NAHP) is proposed. Then, neutrosophic AHP is integrated with neutrosophic Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) for bringing solution to the performance measurement problems. The inputs and outputs of DEA method are weighted by Neutrosophic AHP. The proposed methodology is implemented to solve performance evaluation problem of private universities.

Uncertain cash flows, uncertain life, and uncertain time value of money cause the usage of a fuzzy PWA. In this paper, we develop a Pythagorean fuzzy present worth analysis method to handle the fuzzy parameters of investments. Pythagorean fuzzy sets have better powerful ability than intuitionistic fuzzy sets to model the uncertainty in investment decision making problems. We present the numerical applications of the proposed PWA method.

These parameters can be assigned independently which makes their sum equal to at most three. Neutrosophic sets have been extensively employed in the new extensions of multicriteria decision making methods (MCDM) in the literature. Law firms who are business entities formed by one or more lawyers are associations of lawyers who practice law. We propose a neutrosophic analytic hierarchy process (NAHP) for comparing the performances of these law firms in this paper. The performance of law offices is comparatively measured by the proposed NAHP. Linguistic assessments are used in this process rather than exact numerical evaluations. The illustrative problem hierarchy includes four criteria and four alternatives are given.

Among renewable energy alternatives, wind energy is the most prominent and reliable energy source for fulfilling energy demand. Traditional investment evaluation techniques based on discounted cash flows are not capable of capturing the uncertainty and vagueness in the data related to the wind energy investment parameters. Fuzzy capital budgeting techniques can capture this vagueness and model the imprecise estimations of parameter values. In this paper, we develop interval-valued intuitionistic fuzzy benefit-cost analysis for the evaluation of wind energy technology investments. The fuzzy benefit-cost analyses are based on both present worth and annual worth analyses. The developed analyses can handle the assessments of multiple experts through aggregation operators. In the proposed economic model, the components of each wind energy investment parameter are incorporated into the equations in detail. A real case study is also presented in this paper.

It found many application areas in both theoretical and practical studies from engineering area to arts and humanities, from computer science to health sciences, and from life sciences to physical sciences. In this paper, a comprehensive literature review on the fuzzy set theory is realized. In the recent years, ordinary fuzzy sets have been extended to new types and these extensions have been used in many areas such as energy, medicine, material, economics and pharmacology sciences. This literature review also analyzes the chronological development of these extensions. In the last section of the paper, we present our interpretations on the future of fuzzy sets.

Fuzzy decision-making is used where vague and incomplete data exist for the solution. Fuzzy multicriteria decision-making is one of the most popular problems handled by the researchers in the literature. In this paper, we survey the latest status of fuzzy multicriteria decision-making methods and classify these methods dividing into two parts: fuzzy multiattribute decision-making (MADM) and fuzzy multiobjective decision-making (MODM). Most of the publications are on fuzzy MADM since there are a plenty of classical multiattribute decision-making methods in the literature. Tabular and graphical illustrations for each method are given.
