Viability and seed germination process was studied by applying pregerminative. When seeds collected, and up to 6 months storage, contain 100% viable after that time, it starts to decrease.

It is considered an endangered species. In order to contribute to its preservation and sustainable management, it was considered important to determine the proportion of viable seeds, the loss of viability due to storage period and the germination process by applying pregerminative treatments. We found that freshly collected seeds showed 100% viability, which decreased to 0% after 5 months of storage. According to the cumulative germination significant differences between treatments (p≤0.01) were found. It was observed that seeds can accelerate their time of germination with the previous exposure of 24 h in water at room temperature. The soaking treatment in water for 24 h at room temperature obtained final germination of 55%, while with the control 39% was reached. Soaking in hydrogen peroxide and scarification were the treatments with lower germination percentage (33 and 23%, respectively). To get a higher percentage of germinated seeds in a short time, it is necessary to give a soaking treatment in water for 24 h before sowing.

Scientific literature does not provide up-to-date information on the abiotic and biotic factors that determine the distribution of Croton guatemalensis , a species native to communities in south Mexico. For the first time, the potential distribution of C. guatemalensis was determined using a model which includes reproductive biology data. Questions: Which bioclimatic and climatic variables most contribute to the distribution of C. guatemalensis ? Does reproductive biology data contribute significantly to the prediction of the species distribution? Studied species/Mathematical model: Croton guatemalensis / Maximum Entropy Modeling Study area and dates: Chiapas, Mexico, January - December 2020. Methods: The MaxEnt 4.4.4 algorithm was used, incorporating 16 variables, including bioclimatic, climatic and elevation. In addition, a habita...

The main threat to the species is severe habitat fragmentation due to human activities. The jackrabbit shares the grasslands with cattle (Bos taurus), but the trophic interaction between these herbivores is unknown. This study aimed to determine the seasonal diet of Lepus flavigularis and cattle, to identify the possible dietary overlap between these mammals. The study zone covers an area around the locality of Santa María del Mar in Oaxaca, southern México. Plant species were identified using linear transects, and vegetation cover was also estimated using circular plots. Throughout the study fresh L. flavigularis and B. taurus fecal samples were collected, which were processed using the microhistological technique to determine the seasonal botanical composition of diets from the two species. Twenty-three plant species were recorded in the...

The objective of this work, that belongs to the field of alternative options for drug pollutants ... more The objective of this work, that belongs to the field of alternative options for drug pollutants degradation, is to design an integrated system of anaerobic reactor and constructed wetland to eliminate paracetamol (N-acetyl-p-aminophenol) and diclofenac (2-[2-(2,6-dichloroanilino)phenyl]aceticacid) residues contained in contaminated waters. The integrated system of anaerobic reactor and constructed wetland consisted of a water tank supplying wastewater to a biodigester through a feed tank, a constructed wetland home to two species of plants Cyperus alternifolius and Typha angustifolia, and a treated water collection tank. The parameters were analyzed pursuant to NOM-001-SEMARNAT-1996, while diclofenac and paracetamol were analyzed through capillary electrophoresis. The results showed a 90% biodegradation of the organic material in the effluent. In the biodigester, the average biodegradation reaction speed was Kt = 4.9 days-1 ±0.870; with p˂ 0.05. The drugs were not detected in the e...
