In the proposed approach the coarse model is obtained by interpolating the fine model using multiquadrics in a small number of points. As the algorithms iterates, the response surface model is improved by enriching the set of interpolation points.

The main part of the work regards a pure analytical procedure based on variable separation method (VSM). This methodology requires a preliminary linearisation of the structure to reduce the three-dimensional (3D) problem to a two-dimensional (2D) one. The 2D analytical model

The fields of application regards cableway, cranes and elevators. After a brief introduction regarding the Magneto Inductive technique applied to the non destructive testing of metallic ropes, in the first part paper are presented the structures of detectors for different field of applications, together with their magnetic characteristics. Finally, the second part deals with the performance of the different detectors.

One of the most important application is the magnetic inspection of metallic object, that use family of sensor (Hall, GMR and coils) sensible to the magnetic flux (Hall and GMR are sensible to intensity of flux, and coils are sensible to the variation of the flux). System based on this techniques, in general, are able to read the sensor and, applying a proper software processing to the data collected, give information about the external an internal state (damage, presence of inclusion) of the object under test. An example of this method is the magneto-inductive inspection of metallic rope, widely used for the inspection of cableways. In this paper we will present a different application of this techniques, were the object that we want to test is a metallic plate (or sheet) and the output of a sensor designed ad-hoc for the application is combined to numerical techniques that can give a visual representation of the state of the object. Two different numerical codes based on 3D Finite Integration Technique of the electromagnetic field have been adopted and the results are compared with experimental ones. The main purpose of the presented investigation is to improve the knowledge about modelling of power transformers in order to better estimate the low frequency magnetic field pollution produced by substation power transformers.
