Also, it brings the possibility of enhancing human abilities and perception throughout the execution of specialist activities. Finally, the flexibility and modularity of wearable devices allow the idealization of multiple appliances. In 2020, the world faced a global threat from the COVID-19 pandemic. Healthcare professionals are directly exposed to contamination and therefore require attention. In this work, we propose a novel wearable appliance to aid healthcare professionals working on the frontline of pandemic control. This new approach aids the professional in daily tasks and monitors his health for early signs of contamination. Our results display the system feasibility and constraints using a prototype and indicate initial restrictions for this appliance. This proposal also works as a benchmark for the aid in health monitoring in general hazardous

In this context, System-on-Chips with embedded low-power processors are useful tools to develop prototypes and solutions. Nevertheless, the limited resources of these systems create a limit on the speed and quality of the gathered information. A possible alternative for this problem is to increase the number of embedded computers composing the system, distributing the workload between different nodes. In this study, we analyze the effect of increased distribution on the main wearable constraints using a prototype. In order to investigate the energetic impact of increased distribution, we perform a long-run test. Also, we propose a novel testbed based on the Quality-of-Service (QoS) concepts and use it to analyze the effect of this increased distribution in communication and synchronization performance.

The purpose of this paper is to develop the first steps of an Artificial Intelligence in Deep Learning with Edge Computing to recognize the quasi-particles from the Hybrid Pelletized Sinter (HPS) process and provide its particle size distribution. We trained our model with the aXeleRate tool using the Keras-Tensorflow framework and the MobileNet architecture and tested it with an embedded system using the SiPEED MaiX Dock board. Our model obtained 98.60% accuracy in training validation using real and synthetic images and 100% accuracy in tests with synthetic images and 70% recall. The tests' results indicate the feasibility of the proposed system, but with probable overfitting in the training stage.

The majority of previous studies that approach shape reconstruction work with parametric curves, lacking generality when treating leaves with different shapes. Other appliances try to calculate the damage without estimating the original leaf form. In this work, we propose a procedure to predict the original leaf shape and calculate its defoliation based on a Conditional Generative Adversarial Network (Conditional GAN). We trained and validated the algorithm with a dataset with leaf images from 33 different species. Also, we tested the produced model in another dataset, containing images from leaves from 153 different species. The results indicate that this model is better than the literature, and the solution potentially works with different leaf shapes, even from untrained species.

Although its perspectives are new, the main restraints must also observe conservative constraints of the industrial processes, such as real-time capability and asynchronous design. Among the main tools to develop cutting-edge industrial applications, a novel relevant approach to presenting information and interacting with the Digital Twins (DTs) process. This work evaluates how to model and measure the primary Industry 4.0 constraints in designing novel applications using DTs. This work separates the restraints into two categories: asynchronous and synchronous requirements. First, this work designs a high-level DT system communication flow through a Petri Net model to analyze the asynchronous requirements. Then, it performs a synchronous test with a physical instance of the proposed model. The results display the requirements for safe operation on the case-study system regarding timing and modeling constraints.

The usage of novel software and hardware technologies enforces the solution of tasks related to this problem. In addition, the lack of connectivity for large data throughput raises the demand for edge-computing-based solutions towards this goal. Therefore, in this work, we evaluate the opportunity of using a Wearable edge AI concept in a forest environment. For this matter, we propose a new approach to the hardware/software co-design process. We also address the possibility of creating wearable edge AI, where the wireless personal and body area networks are platforms for building applications using edge AI. Finally, we evaluate a case study to test the possibility of performing an edge AI task in a wearable-based environment. Thus, in this work, we evaluate the system to achieve the desired task, the hardware resource and performance, and the network latency associated with each part of the...

Communication and distribution aspects such as the Internet of Things, Wireless Body Area Networks, and Local Wireless Networks provide the means to develop multi-device platforms. Nevertheless, the field research environment presents a specific feature set, which increases the difficulty in the adoption of this technology. In this text, we review the main aspects of Field Research Gears and Wearable Devices. This review is made aiming to understand how to create cooperative systems based on wearable devices directed to the Field Research Context. For a better understanding, we developed a case study in which we propose a cooperative system architecture and provide validation aspects. For this matter, we provide an overview of a previous device architecture and study an integration proposal.

Frequently, hardware improvements are a way to speed-up the global performance of a solution. However, changing some parts or the whole hardware may increase device complexity, raising the costs and leading to development delays of products or research prototypes. This paper focuses on software improvements, presenting a tool designed to create different versions of operating systems (OSs) fitting the specifications of wearable devices projects. Authors have developed a software tool allowing the end-user to craft a new OS in just a few steps. In order to validate the generated OS, an original wearable prototype for mining environments is outlined. Resulting data presented here allows for measuring the actual impact an OS has in different variables of a solution. Finally, the analysis also allows for evaluating the performance impact associated with each hardware part. Results suggest the viability ...

This work relates the preparation of diethylenetriamine-modified cellulose (DetaCel) by reacting phthalic anhydride-modified cellulose (PhCel) with diethylenetriamine (Deta). Materials were characterized by Elemental Analysis and results showed 7.77 ± 0.03% of nitrogen for DetaCel. The main bands observed for DetaCel by Fourier-Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) were attributed to CN deformation (1330 cm) and NH stretching of amide (3400 cm), while Solid State Nuclear Magnetic Resonance of C (C{H}CP-MAS NMR) showed a signal at 164.6 ppm characteristic of amide group. Crystallinity index obtained by X-ray Diffraction (XRD) was the order Cel > PhCel > DetaCel and the Thermogravimetry (TG) indicated reverse order obtained in XRD. Adsorbent matrices were employed to remove methyl orange (MO) and eosin (EY) dyes in aqueous medium. Data obtained experimentally from kinetic study had a better...

This gives the users a more efficient way to hear the sound of televisions in places where the volume of noise is high. The solution, named "s_TV" comprises two modules: the transmitter and the receiver. The transmitter module is composed by equipment to capture and transmit sound from the TV to smartphones/tablets Android. This equipment is connected to the TV and a router and transmits the sound through a network to Android devices. It can also transmit other types of information, such as the TV settings. An application was also developed to allow the configuration and handling of the servers that emit the sound of televisions. The receiver module resulted in a mobile application that allows the user to choose in a very simple and intuitive way, a particular TV channel and, subsequently, receive and play the sound on the mobile device, in real time. In addition, other features are available such as recording the sound played and sharing it on social networks. The tests conducted indicate that the solution may also be used in real-world scenarios with a scalable number of users, without compromising the services available on existing Wi-Fi networks.
