This has been addressed by several researchers with varying degrees of success. A system capable of building a knowledge base directly from a dialogue with a subjectmatter expert (SME) could significantly reduce the human effort involved in capturing the knowledge and representing it directly in the modeling language. Because of its highly modular and hierarchical nature, the context-based reasoning (CxBR) modeling paradigm lends itself very well to facilitating the knowledge acquisition process for tactical behaviors. This paper describes an investigation into using CxBR as the foundation for a system that creates a (partial) model of tactical behavior through an interactive process with an SME. Through a sequence of queries from the system, the SME is progressively asked to provide details about the contexts that compose the context-based model of the expert's tactical know-how. A prototype was built and evaluated. A comparison to the effort taken to manually develop a knowledge base is reported. We use the simulation of a non-trivial maritime military confrontation as the benchmark for the comparisons.

That characteristic can improve the performance of optical devices that currently use tilted Bragg gratings to provide the mode conversion. Tilted Bragg gratings produce also reflections without mode conversion which increases noise and crosstalk of the optical device.

The holographic planar concentrator replaces expensive photovoltaic cell material with holographic collectors that cost approximately 1% of the photovoltaic material. An analysis is performed using a combination of raytracing and coupled wave theory. Other loss factors such as Fresnel reflection and polarization are also incorporated. The performance of single gratings is optimized to maximize the spectral and angular bandwidth that matches the spectral responsivity of different photovoltaic devices. Multiple grating collectors are also modeled to maximize energy collection over the course of a year accommodating the movement of the sun. The results show that approximately half of the light illuminating the hologram can directly be collected by diffraction and directed to the photovoltaic cell. A test system is evaluated and the experimental results compare well with the analysis.

The aperiodic gratings are treated as an ensemble of localized planar gratings using coupled wave methods in conjunction with sequential and non-sequential ray-tracing techniques to accurately predict volumetric diffraction effects in VHIS. Our approach can be applied to aperiodic, multiplexed gratings and used to theoretically predict the performance of multiplexed volume holographic gratings within a volume hologram for VHIS. We present simulation and experimental results for the aperiodic and multiplexed imaging gratings formed in PQ-PMMA at 488nm and probed with a spherical wave at 633nm. Simulation results based on our approach that can be easily implemented in ray-tracing packages such as Zemax ® are confirmed with experiments and show proof of consistency and usefulness of the proposed models.

Both the mold and the machine are compliant and deform upon loading, which can affect the part quality. Therefore, understanding mold deflection during injection molding is critical for determining the final geometry of the part. It is also critical for secondary processes such as the inmold coating process. This article presents work in quantifying both mold deflection during an injectionmolding cycle and the effect of machine compliance on mold behavior. The mold cavity pressure obtained using MoldFlowி was used as input for the subsequent finite element mold deflection analysis. Two different structural models were used: the first model included only the mold, the mold base units and the ejector platen; the second model included the effect of the injection-molding machine compliance. To validate the model, strain gage rosettes were placed on the mold and the machine. Validating experiments were conducted using process parameters identical to those used in the simulations. A comparison of the experimental and simulation results for both models is presented.

The part is first divided into several simple substructures and each substructure is produced by an optimal process. These preformed substructures are then assembled on a specially designed tool and transferred into a mold cavity for resin impregnation by structural reaction injection molding (SRIM). A composite link is used as an example in this study. The mold filling pattern is simulated using a 3-D computer model. The simulated results compared well with the experimental results when race tracking and fiber impingement effects were considered in the model.

It has been shown in previous studies that a rapid drop in pressure during SMC curing significantly reduced severity of sink marks. This study concentrated on a method of predicting the optimum time during curing to release pressure by examining material behavior through process data from in-mold sersors. A simple control scheme was them applied for automatic pressure release at the optimum time corresponding with the peak of the material expansion and the onset of the reaction exotherm.

To understand the unique features of etravirine and to evaluate its safety, efficacy, and optimal use. The structure and the mechanism of action of etravirine in blocking the reverse transcriptase enzyme and the preclinical, pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic studies were reviewed. The DUET Phase III clinical trials and the resistance profile of etravirine were evaluated. Etravirine has unique activity against most HIV isolates that are resistant to other NNRTIs. Unlike other NNRTIs, it has a higher genetic barrier to developing high-grade resistance. In the DUET studies, etravirine demonstrated virological efficacy superior to the control arms with comparable rates of adverse events with the exception of rash. Because of its effect on the cytochrome P450 system, there are important drug interactions that will need to be taken into consideration with its use.

The surface erosion characteristics of molded CF composites were investigated by sand erosion test using silica particles with a size around 150 lm as the erodent. The eroded surfaces were examined by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and weight loss. The CNF paper was able to provide a much stronger erosion resistance compared to the CF reinforced epoxy composites, which is attributed to the high strength of CNFs and their nanoscale structure. Finite element (FE) computer simulations were used to qualitative interpret the underlying mechanisms.
