Successful e-government portal development projects have been lauded in several academic and practitioner papers. These projects have concentrated on integrating government agencies by working to break the traditional silo-based view of the government and providing seamless integrated online services to citizens. However, the rate of adoption for e-government portals by citizens has been much lower than expected. A major reason identified in the literature for this is a lack of understanding of managerial considerations that affect portal development and subsequent adoption. In this chapter, we present a framework of managerial considerations for the development of e-government portals. The framework builds upon available literature in the field of e-government and public administration. It consists of eight key front-office and back-office considerations that contribute to successful development of an e-government portal. It provides an excellent platform for future research on e-government portals. The framework can also be extended to managers as a useful tool for ascertaining the effectiveness of their government portal development.

However, very little research available focuses on issues in managing supply chain partnerships once they are formed. Taking an emergent process theory perspective, we model the supply chain partnering process as a series of four linked models that correspond with the phases of typical partnership lifecycle from initiation to maturity/termination, and discuss the critical management issues in those phases. The framework provides a roadmap for managers to pursue optimal success in supply chain partnerships.

However, organizations face significant challenges in realizing business transformation objectives which are often associated with ERP adoption projects. Using a case study of a large ERP adopting organization, this paper presents an approach for managing the performance of ERP enabled business transformation programs.

Since the nursing staff is at the centre of biomedical waste handling, their knowledge of adequate disposal of biomedical waste is of utmost importance. So, we conducted a study regarding knowledge, attitude and practice of nursing staff working in a premier institute of western Rajasthan with respect to biomedical waste and its management. Methods: This was a hospital-based descriptive, observational study conducted in our institute in the month of October and November of 2018. Written consent was taken and pre-defined questionnaire was prepared based on a review of literature on the subject. Scrutiny was done for the data for any logical inconsistencies, skip patterns and missing values. Coding of the data was done and entered into a Microsoft Excel. Descriptive and inferential statistics were appl...

Governments around the world are keen to promote financial literacy and fund programmes and organizations that promote financial literacy in low-income populations and youth. However, given the complex interaction of behaviour and skills in financial decisions, it is difficult to conduct an outcome-based evaluation of financial literacy programmes. In the absence of a reliable ex-post evaluation, we focus on ex-ante considerations that should guide us in the design of financial literacy programmes. This article provides a framework for financial literacy programme design drawing lessons from the service innovation literature and experiences of Sanchayan, a non-governmental organization in India that delivers financial literacy and services to low-income adults and youth. We show how Sanchayan in its financial literacy programme design takes the context and the needs of its clients into acco...

We analyze the data collected to explore the relationship between perceived technological and people-related organizational characteristics and an organization's success in institutionalizing ERP systems.

However, despite the increasing popularity and success of several community and business backed initiatives for the development of OSS (such as Linux, Apache, Mozilla Firefox), there is very little academic literature which provides clarity and guidance on how firms can develop business models with OSS. This paper contributes to the existing knowledge by critically analyzing the various open source business models proposed by the researchers. We draw upon the existing literature to build a set of business models which encompass the current trends in this field. The models presented are supported with complimentary cases of organizations that have used them successfully.

Existing literature and survey reports suggest that patenting is a less preferred form of intellectual property right (IPR) being exercised by SMEs compared to large enterprises. In this paper, we focus on 1) understanding why patenting is not the preferred form of IPR practice in Canadian SMEs, and 2) identifying patenting strategies that can be used effectively by Canadian SMEs. The paper is based on a detailed review of literature and secondary data available through sources such as industry publications and Statistics Canada.

While this legislation has put a serious mandate and responsibility on organizations and its managers to improve their corporate governance, risk management, and performance reporting processes, corporate initiatives to comply with SOX also require significant enhancements to ERP systems. ERP systems provide the primary means and foundations for implementing internal controls and improving business processes, which are critical for complying with SOX regulations. In this paper, we analyze the challenges faced by firms in enhancing their ERP systems to comply with the new legislative requirements imposed by SOX.

An inevitable result of implementing compliance with these regulations is an increased focus on improving systems and greater interdependence between the financial and IS functions. In this paper, we analyse the data collected on implementation of regulatory compliance and present some new empirical insights on the regulatory control implementation process and consequential changes in the institutional properties of IS and the accounting functions within the organization.

Based on the hospital's documents and interviews with the senior management, we find that the hospital is moving toward a model of integrated health information system in collaboration with other hospitals in the region for quality decision making and resource sharing. This paper discusses technical and organizational issues that are likely to arise in and exert influence on the adoption of such a system in the future.

This paper explores the challenges of managing total systems flexibility within the divided software life cycle where development activities are performed by the enterprise system's vendor and implementation, maintenance, and process learning are performed by the enterprise system's adopting organization.

It aims to understand the extent to which ERP systems are able to meet these requirements and challenges organizations face in enhancing their ERP systems for this purpose. The chapter reports the results of interviews with ERP systems managers and directors in four organizations with significant global operations. It reveals a substantial degree of completion of SOX requirements by these organizations, often facilitated by consultants, and often accomplished as part of broader systems, processes, and strategic management improvement initiatives. It also highlights some significant technical and cultural implementation challenges, such as systems inflexibility and diversity, systems security weaknesses, and resistance to change, as well as some benefits upon completion, such as improv...

In the denture wearing population, salivary wetting mechanisms are necessary to create adhesion, cohesion, and surface tension that ultimately lead to increased retention of the prosthesis. Salivary flow rate is thus an important aspect contributing to the retentive properties of complete denture. An in-vivo study was thus planned from a comprehensive perspective to assess resting and stimulated whole salivary flow rate and pH and to correlate them before and after complete denture placement in different age groups. Materials and Methods: The participants were 50 edentulous individuals aged from 40-75 years requiring complete denture prostheses. The participants were divided into three groups based on their age groups. The procedure selected for this study was spitting method for collecting resting (unstimulated) and stimulated whole saliva. The flow rates and pH of resting and stimulated saliva were measured at different intervals. Results: There were significant differences in resting and stimulated whole salivary flow rates obtained before, immediately after, and after 2-3 months of complete denture placement. There were significant differences in pH of resting and stimulated whole saliva determined before , immediately after, and after 2-3 months of complete denture placement. Conclusion: The salivary factors like salivary flow rate and pH are to be better analysed for their potential to add benefits to the oral health in particular and overall health in general of an individual.

The innovation process study approach is taken and data is collected from 20 organizations using a questionnaire and structured interviews. Although each adopting organization has a distinct set of objectives for its systems project, we found many similarities in motivations, concerns, and strategies across organizations. This study identifies many critical concerns in ERP project management.

In all companies, existing ERP systems were not able to meet all control requirements without some modifications or add‐on applications. Control implementations have been long, complicated and costly processes, which are not fully completed. Detailed analyses and documentation of existing systems, controls and processes were required in...
