Artemia urmiana is one of the important species of it. Its high nutritional values and various forms with many applications have caused this creature to be considered as the most valuable live food for the cultured aquatic animals. Current research was carried out in order to find out the bio-technique for intensive culture of Artemia with semi-flow through system using unicellular algae (Dunaliella) and wheat bran as food source. The tanks inoculated with 5000 newly hatched Artemia larvae/liter. Artemia were harvested for 14 days. The average production of live Artemia in each three tanks reached to 7116.7 g. The mean length of Artemia in the last day of culture period was 4.09 mm and mean survival rate 42 percent. It was concluded that partial removal of waste material from culture medium helps in higher production rate of live biomass.

The Urmia Lake basin includes three populations: a bisexual species, Artemia urmiana Günther, which is endemic to the Urmia Lake, and two parthenogenetic Artemia popu- ...

Different evolutionary responses can prevent the extinction of the inhabitants of ephemeral wetland habitats. One specific mode of response to environmental changes is bet-hedging as risk-spreading strategy and long-term fluctuating selection. The fairy shrimp Branchinecta orientalis G.O. Sars, 1901 is a broadly distributed species in Europe and Asia. We investigated the hatching pattern of B. orientalis resting eggs as a result of various factors, alone or interacting: 1) brood order, 2) food supplied to the parental generation, and 3) various pre-inundation conditions. Results were recorded for cumulative hatching over 10 d, hatching at the first day, and the first day of hatching. The factors with significant effects on hatching percentage were 1) brood order, 2) type of food, 3) pre-inundation conditions, 4) interaction between ...

Streptocephalus torvicornis was studied from two different locations: Sofian and Poldasht. t-Test and PCA are two statictical analysis have been used for this study. Females are the larger sex in two populations. In Sofian population The first and second components show 61.96% and 8.91% of the total variation respectively; in total the two components show 70.87% of variation also in Poldasht population The first and second components show 35.07% and 18.46% of the total variation respectively; in total the two components show 53.53% of variation.

Filed studies showed that, B. orientalis widely distributed in the lagoons around the Urmia Lake and also Northern regions of province. The discriminant function analysis based on morphological characteristics (12 in female and 10 male) measurements showed that there are significant differences between the studied populations, where 96 % of males, 91 % of females and cumulatively 85.3% of original grouped cases were correctly classified. As a general result, it may be concluded that discriminant function analysis using male morphological characters is a powerful tool in discrimination of populations under study.

The possibility of using fairy shrimps as diet in aquaculture has not been explored widely. Among the live diets used in the aquaculture, fairy shrimps have the potential to be used as a feed item for fishes such as ornamental fishes that benefit from live food. Also, their cysts and nauplii are useful in larval culture, mainly due to their convenience and availability. Phallocryptusspinosa belong to the anostracans, is a common inhabitant in seasonal water catchments in Northwest of Iran. In this study reproductive characteristics and cyst production of Phallocryptusspinosa studied at different temperatures in the lab. Twenty replicates of 20 pairs of adult Anostraca (20 female and 20 male) were treated in temperature of 15, 20, 25 and 30°C. The Anostracans were fed with unicellular algae Dunaliellatertiolecta and Lansy PZ. Anostracans never reached to reproductive at 15 and 30°C. Also we observed higher cyst production at 20°C, compared to that at 25°C (P <0.05).
