I'm currently studying my Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling, focussing on Person-Centred Theory. My interest in counselling stems from my own experiences with mental health, wellbeing, chronic pain (and disability) amongst other difficulties. With a background in History (where I got my Undergraduate and Post-Graduate Certificate), I am personally interested in diversity, minority groups and the impact the establishment has on them.I have worked in both schools and mental health charities which has given me an insight into the impact mental health can have on people. My experiences have brought me into contact with those who present with a variety of needs. I use many of these experiences to help my own learning and my peers. Of course I aim to be a working counsellor, but I also feel strongly about the need to research and help further develop the counselling field. Person-Centred and other Humanistic models of counselling have arguably less quantifiable research, which impacts on it's accessibility in the UK. I hope that through the work of other counsellors and myself more awareness about the strengths of humanistic therapies can develop.
