A prevalência de CKD em gatos aumenta à medida que a idade avança, estimando-se que cerca de 30% de todos os gatos com idade igual ou superior a 15 anos estão afetados. Em cães, a prevalência é bastante variável, dependendo da idade e da população em estudo, variando de 0,37% no Reino Unido a 10% nos EUA. Alterações do metabolismo do cálcio e fósforo séricos e a presença de hiperparatireoidismo são complicações previsíveis em pacientes portadores de insuficiência renal crónica (IRC), mesmo nas fases iniciais. 2,4,6,7,8 A etiologia de CKD é difícil de determinar quando diagnosticada nos estadios tardios da doença. Either they are like CTL-lines in their morphology, their capacity to lyse targets, their dependence on TCGF and their sensitivity to Vicia villosa (VV) lectin, or they resemble thymoma cells, and are cytolytically inactive TCGF-independent and VV resistant. Exposure of hybrids of this last type to Con A supernatant (CS) does not alter their phenotype. TCGF-independent hybrids between murine CTL-lines and a rat T-thymoma, on the other hand, acquire cytolytic capacity during culture in CS. This induction is reversible, and is not mediated by TCGF alone.

Number of chromosomes ranged from 40 to 49, the great majority of the cells (80%) having 43 or 44 chromosomes. Each cell presents a group of normal and a group of abnormal chromosomes most of which arose from complex rearrangements. As the abnormal chromosomes are characteristic for this subline and consistently appear in all cells, they can be considered marker chromosomes. Thirteen different marker chromosomes have been identified. BW5147 is a cell line derived from a spontaneously arising thymoma in AKR/J mice. Hyman (1) selected a thioguanineand ouabain-resistant double mutant, BW5147.G.1.4.0UAR.1 which displays the following phenotype: H-2K, Thy-l.l+, Ig , la-, Lyt-1+ and Lyt-2 (2, 3). This subline has frequently been used to obtain T cell hybridomas in intra-specific somatic cell fusions with different types of T cells. Inter-specific hybrids derived from this line have been used for the chromosomal assignment of human genes (4, 5, 6, 7) and for attempts to localize rat genes involved in growth control by interleukin-2 (8). Although widely used in somatic cell crosses, the karyotype of BW5147.G.1.4.OUA. 1 has not yet been described in detail (9, 10).
