Some work has been done in extending cepstral filtering to the 2D domain. An application that we are particularly interested in is 2D echo removal. We show in this paper that 1D cepstral filtering techniques may be applied to the projections of images in the Radon domain. The filtered projections may then be used to reconstruct an image without the echoes. Results with synthetic images are presented to illustrate the strengths of the method. The technique could find applications in analysis of textured images and images obtained via reconstruction from projections.

Highly sensitive environments such as hospitals deserve special attention, since noise can aggravate patients' health issues and impair the performance of healthcare professionals. This work consists of a systematic review of scientific articles describing environmental noise measurements taken in hospitals between the years 2015 and 2020. The researchers started with a consultation of three databases, namely, Scopus, Web of Science, and ScienceDirect. The results indicate that for the most part, these studies are published in journals in the fields of medicine, engineering, environmental sciences, acoustics, and nursing and that most of their authors work in the fields of architecture, engineering, medicine, and nursing. These studies, which are concentrated in Europe, the Americas, and Asia, use as reference values sound levels recommended by the World Health Organization. L eq measured in hospital environments showed daytime values ranging from 37 to 88.6 dB (A) and nighttime values of 38.7 to 68.8 dB (A). L eq values for outdoor noise were 74.3 and 56.6 dB (A) for daytime and nighttime, respectively. The measurements were taken mainly inside hospitals, prioritizing more sensitive departments such as intensive care units. There is a potential for growth in work carried out in this area, but research should also include discussions about guidelines for improvement measures aimed at reducing noise in hospitals.

This paper proposes a methodology that allows the estimation of the potential for cities to be more independent in terms of centralized generation and distribution of electricity considering photovoltaic sources. Sustainability and environmental performance are also discussed. The methodology aims to assess some municipalities in the São Paulo state. The results showed high potential for photovoltaic supply in those municipalities under the considered conditions indicating the possibility for structuring a decentralized generation model where cities would be more independent in electricity supply. Implementing the required photovoltaic systems would return the energy consumed during their life cycle in a relatively short period compared to their expected lifetime.

The measurements were performed in triplicate, on weekdays, at three points around the hospital during the night, and followed the guidelines of the NBR 10151/2019 standard. At the same measurement points, the manual counting of light vehicles, heavy goods, and motorcycles was performed. The equipment used was the BK 2260 analyzer and the BK 4231 calibrator. For statistical analysis, data normality was verified through the Shapiro-Wilk test and, later, the differences in sound levels before and during the pandemic through the paired t-test. The correlation between sound levels and the number of vehicles was verified by Spearman's correlation. The level of significance adopted was α=0.05. There was a significant reduction in the movement of light and heavy vehicles during the pandemic and less reduction for motorcycles. It was found t...

The study was developed by using Landsat 8 images from January and August, 2015. Image processing was performed with ArcGis and Matlab building correlation matrices to evaluate variations of each index in Brazilian vegetation. Results showed decreasing values of the three indices from wet to dry period. Climatic conditions influenced on the vigor and moisture content of vegetation. The pixel to pixel correlation method is appropriated to study vegetation changes and quantify increase, decrease or maintenance of vegetation.

In this work, we describe the development of a low cost micro-CT X-ray scanner that is being developed for nondestructive testing. This tomograph operates using a microfocus X-ray source and contains a silicon photodiode as detectors. The performance of the system, by its spatial resolution, has been estimated through its Modulation Transfer Function-MTF and the obtained value at 10% of MTF is 661 µm. It was built as a general purpose nondestructive testing device.

In the last years, the methods employed by CT have been used in various areas, such as in the analyses of soils, in determining the age of trees through measuring their rings, and in investigating structural defects and other fl aws in concrete. In this study, by using data obtained by the Mini Computerized Gama-Ray Tomographer of the University of Sorocaba (MCTU), we installed a new device in the Tri-Dimensional Tomography Program (TTD) that permits to automatically classify elements present in tomographic data, such as the identifi cation of thick aggregates (fl intstones) in samples of concrete. It also allows the calculation of volume, surface areas and position. The information attained by these means can be used as an important tool in the analysis of tomographic data. In this study, we analyzed the techniques used to process the images and we tried to verify the segmentation and classifi cation processes. Finally, we presented some results obtained from the analysis of a "phantom", especially built to check the new devices, and also the analysis of a sample of concrete.

The standard technique used in this kind of measure is the use of densimeter. The proposal of this work is based on the measure of the linear attenuation coefficient of hydrated ethanol, using the gammaray attenuation technique. The water amount, in volume, can be determined knowing the linear attenuation coefficient of hydrated ethanol. Samples of hydrated ethanol, collected at fuel stations, located in Sorocaba, SP, Brazil, were analyzed and the results showed the feasibility of the technique.
