It is an introduction to alternative education with a focus on the interdependent relationships among philosophy, psychology, methodology, technology and education to inspire imaginative and creative teaching. The goal is to foster an attitude that values other ways of knowing, doing and expressing, and to challenge the teaching world taken-for-granted. The course will offer first-hand experience including a variety of imagination and creativity activities relevant to the classroom. The course duration is 36 hours and is worth 3 credits. Learning Expectations: The standards of practice for the teaching profession and the ethical standards for the teaching profession have been embedded in the learning expectations for this course. This course has the following learning expectations for the candidates: • Have opportunities to develop and increase skills and effectiveness as imaginative and creative educa...

The term mission assurance stems from risk management work by Carnegie Mellon's Software Engineering Institute in the late 19905. By 2010, the Defense Information Systems Agency revised its cyber strategy and established the Program Executive Officer-Mission Assurance. This highlights a shift from simply protecting data to balancing risk and begins a necessary dialogue to establish a cyber security roadmap. The Military Operations Research Society has recommended a cyber community of practice, recognizing there are too few professionals having both cyber and analytic experience. The authors characterize the limited body of knowledge in this symbiotic relationship. This paper identifies operational and research requirements for mission assurance M&S supporting defense and homeland security. M&S techniques a...

The study was conducted in two phases. The participants in the first phase consisted of one cohort of 39 preservice teachers; the second phase consisted of eight participants drawn from phase one. Data sources included personal history accounts, term reports, reflection papers, lesson plans, learning journals and transcribed focus group interviews. The data were emergent and a constant comparative method was used for analysis. Phase One findings are presented holistically while Phase Two findings are presented as three case studies. The findings indicated that preservice teachers have multiple assumptions and beliefs about literacy teaching and learning when entering the teacher education program and that these are informed by a variety of influences, prior to their admission to and during their studies in the Bachelor of Education program. Findings also indicate that preservice teachers can identify their entering beliefs when given opportunities to do so and that those beliefs are amenable to change in linear as well as cyclical ways as a result of in-course and across course learnings and experiences and field components of the program as well as through opportunities for reflection. 11

Included are elementary teacher insights, university-based facilitator views, and principal perspectives that together complete a picture of our professional development efforts. Together the data provide an overview of an action research effort, wherein praxis was noted as a necessary element to assume 'practical' investigative roles. Praxis herein is the deliberate, informed, planned, and systematic action which is the critical underpinning of all action research efforts. The action in this case was directed towards improvement and implementation of an instructional initiative. This outcome brings with it an immense level of significance in that all educators seek to improve educational outcomes personally, professionally, and politically; therefore a report such as this may be viewed as an essential tool to refine educational practice. What follows are several rudimentary understandings within the action research landscape. Specifically, a discussion of what it means to be a reflective teacher is followed by discussion of group action research that leads into the context of this inquiry. The questions raised and our methods to address these probes are detailed within our methodology. The analysis and interpretation of evidence guide us to an informed view of professional development. Finally, our conclusion is laid out as are the future plans for this enterprise. Ultimately, all participants agreed to work together to realize increases in student literacy.

Paired with a "critical friend", individual teachers analyzed their schools' results and identified areas for improvement. They identified action research questions, investigated the questions in their own classrooms, collected data to evaluate the impact of their work, and recorded their investigations. The teachers' own assessments and the 2000 EQAO test results indicate substantial success. Teachers began to see provincial test results as friendly data that schools can use to improve student learning, and action research and feedback/corrective action as powerful methods to do so. The study contributes to understanding how provincial testing and action research can be used to improve student learning, what constitutes effective teacher in-service education, and the benefits of teacher research.

However, upon closer inspection, there clearly is an overriding theme of efficacy (the power to produce a desired effect or result) that runs through.

Visual evidence of windlass function was recorded by video. Chi-square analysis revealed that excessive pronation does not affect the establishment of the windlass mechanism. The position of the forefoot relative to the rearfoot, subtalar joint axis position, and navicular drift/foot length ratio were significantly associated with dynamic windlass function. These results suggest that selected static measurements may have value in predicting some aspects of dynamic foot function during the propulsive phase of the gait cycle.
