The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of the biadsorbent from ketapang leaves (Terminalia sp.) on the adsorption of Rhodamine B dye without activation and with activation by 10% phosphoric acid. The study began with testing the variation of mass, time, and concentration of Rhodamine B by ketapang leaves. Then the adsorption process was carried out using a batch system and the concentration of the filtrate was measured using a UV-Vis spectrophotometer. Followed by the isotherm analysis of Freundlich and Langmuir. The results showed that the bioadsorbent ability of ketapang leaves without activation or with activation by 10% H3PO4 in terms of mass variation, contact time, and Rhodamine B concentration were 300 mg, contact time was 90 & 120 minutes, and Rhodamine B concentration was 10 mg/l. - 30 mg/l. Intermittent warming treatments for 12, 24, and 36 hours at 24°C were applied at the end of every week. Control Fruit were held continuously at 2°C. All fruit were subjected to poststorage ripening at 24°C for 7 days. Fruit decay, chlorophyll and lycopene content, fruit firmness, pH, TSS and TA were detected after storage or 7 days after transfer to 24°C. Results were compared between control and intermittently warmed fruit when stored at 2°C for 2, 3, and 4 weeks. Compared to fruit kept continuously at 2°C, intermittent warming at 24°C for 12, 24, and 36 hours reduced decay, increased chlorophyll disappearance, lycopene synthesis, and fruit firmness, enhanced pH and TSS, and declined TA. Fruit intermittently warmed for 36 hours/week showed the least decay, higher chlorophyll disappearance, and lycopene synthesis; retention of fruit firmness, pH, and TSS; and lower TA than fruit intermittently warmed for 1...

The independent variables included in the model are domestic sugar price, import sugar price, tea price, coffe price, and a government policy on the pricing of provenue sugar price. The Error Correction Model (ECM) that is used to help analyzing the data finds that all variables influence the dependent variable both in the long run and in the short run, except the price of coffe.

Purpose of this study is: to describe and analyze of performance, the gap between performance of services unit PDAM with the consumers expectation, and effort to improving performance of services unit PDAM in Samarinda in terms of public services. Result of research that in executing public service duties, services unit face some constraint. The constraints become which factors block in achieving the target and organization goals so that almost all the target and goals are not realized. Do not achieve this goals because quality of performance all staff, as organization task developer, both in quantity or quality is still lower, specially in response to service demand and delivery of consumer complaints, the community. Less active and slow in response to the demand of public sercice from customers resulted in a gap between the performance of service unit to the consumers expectations. Though, the policy improving of performance service in all service unit PDAM in Samarinda have been made and specified through RKAP (Rencana Kerja dan Anggaran Perusahaan / workplan and budget of company) as effort to repair public service tasks performed by the company.

The samples contained Ca2+, Mg2+ and Na+ as the dominant cations and HCO3- and Cl- were the dominant anions. Ratios of major cations and anions of water samples suggest the predominance of Ca and Mg-containing minerals over Na-containing minerals. According to TDS and SAR values, all samples were classed as 'freshwater' and 'excellent' categories. The SSP of all waters was under 'excellent' and 'good' classes. All samples were within 'soft' class regarding hardness with 'suitable' RSC. Based on As3+, Zn2+, Mn2+, Fe3+, SO42-, NO3- and Cl- all groundwater samples were within the 'safe' limit for drinking but unsuitable for some industries for specific ions.

Materials and methods Forty newly diagnosed patients of locally advanced carcinoma of larynx and hypopharynx were selected following a pre-decided inclusion and exclusion criteria. They were randomized to receive either concurrent chemoradiation using Injection Cisplatin 100 mg/m2 every 3 weeks and external radiation 66 Gy/6.5 weeks/33# (Arm A) or accelerated radiotherapy with concomitant boost (Arm B) delivering 45 Gy/5 weeks/25# to entire tumour bearing region and a boost of 22.5 Gy/3 weeks/15# to the gross tumour. The boost was given as a second daily dose during the last 3 weeks of treatment and the BED of radiation given to both arms were comparable. The primary endpoint was to assess the functional organ preservation at one year. The acute toxicities of treatment and change in quality of life were also compared between the two arms. The statistical significance was calculated using SPSS v18. Results All the patients completed treatment as planned. Only one patient in Arm B had residual disease requiring laryngectomy. Functional organ preservation with good voice and swallowing functions were seen in 90% in Arm A and 95% in Arm B. Statistically significant difference was seen in Grade 3 dysphagia scoring, Arm A 60%, Arm B 30% ( p = 0.024). All other acute toxicities and quality of life scores were comparable. Conclusion This preliminary analysis suggests that accelerated radiation with concomitant boost is as effective as chemoradiation for functional organ preservation in locally advanced cancers of larynx and hypopharynx. A bigger study is underway to see if concomitant boost can be offered as an alternative to chemoradiation in these patients.

Materials and Methods: Ethanolic extract of Paederia foetida (EEPF) was prepared by percolation method. Acute toxicity test was done by using Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development guidelines. Albino rats were divided into four groups of five animals each. Groups A and B received 3% gum acacia. Groups C and D received EEPF 500 mg/kg body weight (BW) and 5-aminosalisylic acid 100 mg/kg BW respectively. Colitis was induced by transrectal administration of 4% acetic acid on 5 th day. All animals were sacrificed after 48 h of colitis induction and distal 10 cm of the colon was dissected. Colon was weighed for disease activity index (DAI) and scored macroscopically and microscopically. Biochemical assessment of tissue myeloperoxidase (MPO), catalase (CAT) and superoxide dismutase (SOD) was done in colonic tissue homogenate and malondialdehyde (MDA) was estimated in serum. Results: P. foetida showed significant (P < 0.05) reduction in DAI, macroscopic and microscopic lesion score as well as significant (P < 0.05) improvement in MPO, MDA, CAT, and SOD level as compared to Group B. Conclusions: The ethanolic extract of leaves of P. foetida showed significant amelioration of experimentally induced colitis, which may be attributed to its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant property.

Towards developing a sustainable weed management strategy, seeding method and rate may substantially contribute to weed suppression and reduce herbicide use and weeding cost. A trough experiment was established at the Plant House of Universiti Putra Malaysia with two seeding methods, namely conventional broadcast seeding (CBS) and line seeding with east-west row orientation (REW). Three seeding rates were established at 200 (SR200), 300 (SR300) and 400 seeds m-2 (SR400); and two weed control levels were established as weedy (W) and weed free (F) in a factorial RCBD with four replications. Twenty (20) weed species comprising eleven broadleaved, five grasses and four sedges were identified. Broadleaved weeds contributed more than 50% of the total dry matter. Weed density and dry weight decreased gradually with increased seeding rate, but were independent of methods. REW produced significantly higher grain yield compared with CBS. Among the seeding rates, SR300 produced the highest grain yield followed by SR200 and SR400. Weed free treatment performed better with a yield advantage of 23% over weedy treatment. Weed inflicted relative yield loss did not vary due to seeding methods or rates. Therefore, increasing seeding rate up to 300 seeds m-2 may be worthwhile to reduce weed pressure without sacrificing rice yield.
