Although reported concentrations are generally low, a large numbers of PPCPs with diverse chemical natures have been detected in soil, water, and aquatic environments, and most of them can persist in the environment for long time posing detrimental effects on human health, biota, or other significant environment aspects. Several techniques such as bioremediation, ozonation, electrochemical separation technologies, and physicochemical treatments including coagulation, volatilization, sorption, sedimentation have been used to remediate PPCPs contaminated sites. This chapter provides a comprehensive overview of sorptive removal techniques of PPCPs and the mechanism of interaction. Until now, various sorbents including activated carbon, biochar, agricultural solid waste, industrial by-products, natural clay minerals, and biosorbents have been examined to remove PPCPs in water and wastewater. The diverse chemical nature and specific properties of PPCPs make the sorption process more complex in the natural environment. Hence, research interest needs to be focused on novel sorbents which are suitable for natural environment conditions. Moreover, specific properties of water/wastewater such as pH, ionic strength, other contaminants, and temperature should be considered for the selection of proper sorbent.

Turbidity removal efficiencies of M. oleifera seed and pod extracts were studied at 3, 6 and 9% w/v stock solution concentrations, using jar test. M. oleifera seed and pod extracts excellently removed turbidity from surface water with the seed extract exhibiting higher performance than the pod, with overall turbidity removal > 70%. Turbidity removal efficiencies of 98 and 84% at optimum dose of 100 and 200 mg/L were achieved by M. oleifera seed and pod extracts at 3 and 6% w/v, respectively. Turbidity was optimally removed at pH 6.5 and 8.0 using the M. oleifera seed and pod extracts, respectively. This study demonstrates the potentials of using M. oleifera pod extract for turbidity removal from surface water. Moringa pods can potentially replace its seeds in surface water treatment.

One of the main contaminate is the industrial wastewater. Most of industrial wastewater contains high concentration of toxic heavy metals. In this study, the adsorption method using raw agricultural wastes (palm waste fiber) to remove heavy metals Zn +2 and Cr(VI) from industrial wastewater was made. The obtained removal ratios using palm waste fiber were93.67%, 89.20% for Zn+2 and Cr(VI), respectively. The result showed that, the removal efficiency increased by increasing the adsorption contact time, and the flow rate were decreased. It also showed that, the removal efficiency for zinc better than Cr(VI) using palm waste fiber. The success of use the cheap adsorbent as adsorbent material from the agricultural waste in industrial wastewater treatment open the door for the existing factories to treat their wastewater with low cost that has no effect on their profits and prevent any punishment for environmental pollution.

Deaf and dumb Muslims cannot reach advanced levels of education due to the impact of obstruction ... more Deaf and dumb Muslims cannot reach advanced levels of education due to the impact of obstruction on their educational attainment. This leads to their inability to learn, recite, and understand the meanings and interpretations of the Holy Qur’an as easily as ordinary people, which also prevents them from applying Islamic rituals such as prayer that require learning and reading the Holy Qur’an. In this paper, we propose a new model for Qur’anic sign language recognition based on convolutional neural networks through data preparation, preprocessing, feature extraction, and classification stages. The proposed model is aimed at recognizing the movements of the Arabic sign language by recognizing the hand gestures that refer to the dashed Qur’anic letters in order to help the deaf and dumb learn their Islamic rituals. The experiments have been conducted on a part of a large Arabic sign language dataset called ArSL2018, which represents the 14 dashed letters in the Holy Qur’an, so that thi...

The goal of screening mammography programs is to decrease mortality from breast cancer. Initially praised as a universal achievement to improve women's health and to reduce the burden of breast cancer, the benefits and harms of mammography screening have been debated heatedly in the past years. Although much attention has been paid to the female breast and its pathologic conditions, the male breast is often times ignored given its rudimentary and nonfunctional nature. However, the male breast is the source of a wide variety of benign and malignant conditions, and particular attention must be paid to palpable abnormalities of the male breast to ensure accurate characterization and diagnosis of these lesions. Mammography has been traditionally used as the imaging modality of choice in the evaluation of the male breast, particularly in distinguishing between gyne...

So, this study develops a network architecture based on Internet of Things platform. A system improves the efficiency of the current cloud-based smart-parking system. This study suggested a system that assists users in automatically finding a free parking space at the lowest cost. With an application, a user can request to reserve a parking slot. The application moves a driver directly into the free slot in a garage. Also, it utilizes the distance and total number of free spaces in each garage to determine the user nearest parking slot and cost. The garage slot cost will be charged by user credit once the user entered the garage or reserved a parking slot through the application. The system proposed a novel system which picks up a parking slot, reserves, and pays for it through mobile application. The proposed system can easily be deployed in the actual world.

Sign languages, however, employ hand motions extensively. People with hearing impairments use sign language. Pattern recognition in computer vision may be used to interpret and translate Arabic Sign Language (ArSL) for deaf and dumb persons using image processing-based software systems. Arab hearing-impaired and deaf persons communicate with Arabic Sign Language Recognition (ArSLR).We propose an image-based ArSLR system employing gesture recognition to enable people with disabilities to engage with the outside world. This work proposes the design and development of an automated Arabic sign language-to-Arabic text translation system. This study extracts stem Arabic words and differentiates related terms. Hand motions capture alphabet letters in the proposed approach. Image isolation occurs after acquisition. Extraction, conclusion, and hand sign pattern characteristics comprise the third step. The fourth phase classifies hand gestures using a powerful classification algorithm. Finally, the sign language letter is interpreted and translated to the Arabic character.

The Internet of Things (IoT) refers to the concept of connecting smart things to monitor, control, or exchange data over the Internet. These smart things could be tiny devices, with limited battery capacity and power supplies. These devices' high energy consumption shortens their lifespan, affecting the entire IoT network. The Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) developed the main routing protocols used in the IoT, such as the IPv6 Routing Protocol for Low-Power and Lossy Networks (RPL), and standardized it in RFC6550, as one of the IoT's core routing protocols, and it is the only standard protocol that assists the routing process in Low Power and Lossy Networks (LLNs) of IoT applications. An approach that addresses the challenges of IoT networks and exploits new flexible net...

They can't read, recite, or comprehend the Holy Qur'an, hence they can't practise Islamic ceremonies. This study proposes a CNN-based Qur'anic sign language recognition methodology. First, photos are used to train for dynamic and static gesture recognition. Second, preparing images diversifies datasets. Finally, CNNbased deep learning models extract and classify features. To teach the deaf and dumb Islamic ceremonies, the programme recognises Arabic sign language hand motions referring to dashed Qur'anic letters. Only 24,137 photos of the Holy Qur'an's 14 dashed letters were used in the trials from ArSL2018, a huge Arabic sign language collection. SMOTE raises training and testing accuracy to 98.31% and 97.67%, respectively, whereas the proposed model reaches 98.05% and 97.13%. RMU obtains 98.66% and 97.52% training and testing accuracy, whereas RMO achieves 98.37% and 97.36%.

Countermeasures have been developed and validated against these two types of attacks, taking into account a well-defined attacker model. This work focuses on small vulnerabilities and countermeasures related to the Elliptic Curve Digital Signature Algorithm (ECDSA) algorithm. The work done in this paper focuses on protecting the ECDSA algorithm against fault-injection attacks. More precisely, we are interested in the countermeasures of scalar multiplication in the body of the elliptic curves to protect against attacks concerning only a few bits of secret may be sufficient to recover the private key. ECDSA can be implemented in different ways, in software or via dedicated hardware or a mix of both. Many different architectures are therefore possible to implement an ECDSA-based system. For this reason, this work focuses mainly on the hardware implementation of the digital signature ECDSA. In addition, the proposed ECDSA architecture with and without fault detection for the scalar multiplication have been implemented on Xilinx field programmable gate arrays (FPGA) platform (Virtex-5). Our implementation results have been compared and discussed. Our area, frequency, area overhead and frequency degradation have been compared and it is shown that the proposed architecture of ECDSA with fault detection for the scalar multiplication allows a trade-off between the hardware overhead and the security of the ECDSA.
