Deficiency of S is widespread in soils of India, and is becoming a major concern for the quality and yield of groundnut crop. Therefore, a study was conducted to investigate the response of groundnut to S application in alluvial Inceptisols of West Bengal with four levels of S, i.e. 0, 15, 30 and 45 kg/ha. The critical limits of Sulphur in soil and plant for deï¬ciency, adequacy and toxicity were determined from Bray percent yield (BPY). The amount of CaCl2 extractable S in soils varied from11.90–29.17 mg/kg while the critical level for deficiency of S in groundnut was graphically 18.6 mg/kg and statistically 19.58 mg/kg in soils. Application of S increased groundnut yield signiï¬cantly, concentration of S in plant and its uptake by groundnut parts. The critical limit was determined to be 3.0 g/kg for groundnut plants and 4.42 g/ kg for groundnut nuts at harvest.

Acoustic properties of AlN thin films depend on its growth direction. As compared to c-axis (002) AlN films, a-axis (100) AlN films are more suitable for shear-horizontal acoustic wave applications2. In the present work, preferential (100) oriented AlN thin films were grown on Mo coated Si (100) substrate using reactive RF magnetron sputtering. We have chosen Mo as the bottom electrode due to its good lattice match with AlN, etching compatibility, and high acoustic velocity (~ 6,250 m/s). This combination of preferential (100) oriented AlN and Mo hetero-structure will be very useful for high frequency SAW and BAW resonators appli...

We have observed a skull assimilated with first cervical vertebra (atlas) leaving some perforations along the line of fusion. Atlas does not bear body like other cervical vertebrae, forms atlano-occpital joint which allow flexion, extension particularly nodding movement to the head. Case Report We have come across with total fusion of atlas with skull during undergraduate medical teaching. The skull was completely examined. The lateral mass showed complete fusion with occipital condyles. Anterior arch was completely fused with occipital bone whereas there were some perforations along the line of fusion between posterior arch and occipital bone. Conclusion Occpitalization of atlas may severe complications ranges from headache to spinal cord compression. This condition may be characterised by headache, cervical pain, postural abnormality, restricted flexion and ...

[Ni(2,6-PDC)(Hdmpz)(H2O)2]∙H2O (1) and [Zn(3-CNpy)2Cl2] (2) (2,6-PDC = 2,6-pyridinedicarboxylate, Hdmpz = 3,5-dimethylpyrazole, 3-CNpy = 3-cyanopyridine) have been synthesized and characterized using elemental analysis, thermogravimetric analysis, electronic, infrared spectroscopy and single crystal X-ray diffraction techniques. Crystal structure analyses reveal the presence of supramolecular assemblies involving interesting dimers with unconventional contacts in the compounds. DFT (Density Functional Theory) calculations on the supramolecular dimers in the crystal structure of 1 reveal that the sum of contributions of anion–π, π–π and other long range interactions due to the approximation of the bulk monomers is energetically significant. Molecular Electrostatic Potential (MEP) surface and Quantum Theory of Atoms in Molecules (QTAIM) analyses on the interesting supramolecular dimers of the crystal structures of 2 reveal the presence of unconventional anion⋯π contacts involving coordinated chlorido ligands and C–H⋯π(nitrile) interactions involving the π-system of the nitrile moiety of 3-cyanopyridine. Remarkably, Atoms in Molecules analysis also confirms the existence of energetically significant unconventional anti-parallel nitrile⋯nitrile interaction in the crystal structure of 2. Cell cytotoxicity of the compounds performed in Dalton's lymphoma (DL) malignant cancer cell line showed effective potency with negligible cytotoxicity in normal cells (~12%). It is interesting that compound 1has excellent cytotoxic potency with IC50 closer to cisplatin and can bind different biological targets with similar signalling pathways. Structure activity relationship (SAR) analyses of 1 and 2 based on pharmacophore modelling reveal that the molecular features associated with the structures of the compounds play important role in the biological activities.
