Bee Bartlett | Sarah Wiseman Gallery

Bee Bartlett explores the balance between composition and experimenting with materials in her painting. She draws us into her own view of the world by creating 'likenesses' of towns, cities and countryside, seeking out the character of a place, by honing in on an architectural element, a unique light, or view point to build a sense of familiarity.

Bee's interpretation of her emotional response to a place creates a fresh and lively feeling on the canvas and it is here on the canvas that the tension between the composition and the materials come into play as she uses different materials to create the final works, gold leaf, plaster, chalk paint, oil, pencil and collage.

Bee Bartlett - 2023 Oxford Collection | Sarah Wiseman Gallery
Bee Bartlett's new Oxford collection has gained a lot of traction with the romantic essence of the golden sky that lights the city this time of year. She uses gold leaf to create the reflective atmosphere, as well as collaging elements she may find while sketching, like leaves. Now in the gallery as part of the Christmas Group Show.

As the evening gets lighter and the sun shines brighter, we've been reflecting on Bee's phenomenal portrayal of light in the abstracted Oxford rooftops of 'Evening Light'. Using gold leaf, she captures the harmonious glow that lights the gorgeous architecture of Oxford centre.

Loosely based off of North Oxford's renowned open meadow, Port Meadow, Bee Bartlett's 'Port Meadow Reflections' captures the essence of it's vast open structure as well as the aquatic palette of the River Thames that runs along it. Bee captures the drama of the setting sun, gliding through the reflections of the water along with the enhanced hues of the evening sky. 'Port Meadow Reflections' is currently on show at the gallery.
