Watch for seasonal clearance signs at Michaels. This was 70% off. ‘
Tape off the edges.
Paint with a coat of gesso.
Come back with a palette knife and texture paste or heavy gesso for a little texture.
Once dry. Do a was of raw umber.
Print on tissue paper a saying.
Put tissue down with fluid matte medium.
Find some clips that you like.
Glue those down with E6000 and a tiny bit of hot glue to keep the clips in place while the E6000 dries.
Then fill with your favorite things.

Spooky "skin" potion book. Discarded book. Tissue Paper Paper towel (no print). Modge Podge or white glue, hot glue, Paint. Moss (opt) Glass disc. Use hot glue to make designs. Wad up and open the tissue paper. Put coat of glue on the front of the book. Lay paper on the book & squish it around to fit the book wrapping around edges. Wrinkles are good. Finish remaining sides. Let dry. Create eye with flat glass disc and eye from magazine. Lids are made from tissue paper.
