Connect; Black and White Mixed Media on Canvas With Textiles and Stones
I envisioned my Prayer Quilt series to be a meditation guide and a calming companion in your sacred space. Combining my hand painted fabrics with stitching and semi-precious stones on canvas, I always strive to achieve a relaxing color harmony with the use of tonal variations. ‘Connect” features a faceted white moonstone, a black rutilated quartz, a large oval spiderweb jasper, and a silver plated crystal. The stones are tied to the canvas with waxed linen. Also attached are silver gray mohair strands. Spiderweb Jasper is said to represent a connectedness to the universe. Black Rutilated Quartz is said to represent illumination, fostering dissolution of bad energy and thoughts. White Moonstone is said to connect to the energy of the moon; relaxing the mind and body. He currently resides and works in Todi, Italy. Ceccobelli was one of the six artists of the Nuova Scuola Romana or Scuola di San Lorenzo, an artistic movement that grew out of the Arte Povera and Transavanguardia movements of the latter twentieth century. He wrote: "I do not want to be a market-fan artist, but to belong to all times, and this is why I believe in a foreseeing art, not just historical or literary or sociological or stylistic. I believe in a symbolic art, capable to offer a message and to pacify the world". In 1975, he first took part in a group exhibition in the Town Hall of Albach, Austria, and
