Naps

Eat, wake, sleep. Repeat. That is the pattern we all have in our heads. Sometimes, however, that little cutie of yours doesn’t seem to have gotten the memo and wakes up early from a nap. Too early for it to be time to eat already. Of course the first thing you check when you have a short nap going on is make sure you don’t have a growth spurt or hunger happening. You try to feed the baby. For the purposes of this post, I am going to assume you have checked the hunger possibility and have been working to try to figure out why the short naps are happening. In the meantime, between now and having the issue resolved and baby back to taking long enough naps, you need to know what to do with baby!

There are few things as satisfying as getting your little sweetie in bed for the night. After a long day of caring for your little one, you can finally get some much needed downtime. It makes sense, then, that there is immense stress when baby wakes shortly after going to bed for the night. This is often called a false start, and can be incredibly emotionally draining for the parents. There are many possible causes for this happening. Did you know that toddlers can learn to do chores around the house? Let’s be real. 99% of the time, any chore you have your toddler do will not be helpful to you. It will not make life easier. It will not remove anything form your plate. You will likely need to re-do the chore in the future or else just be satisfied with how the job was completed. It will probably take your toddler at least 5 times as long as you would take to do the task. It can be very frustrating and difficult letting your toddler do chores. And for a toddler, it is “letting.” Most toddlers want to do chores. A lot. So with all of the difficulty that having, or letting, toddlers do chores brings along with it, why on earth would you want to let a toddler do chores?

Do you know what I reeeeaaalllly dislike in my house? The cheap little toys you get that end up breaking in a day. Kids don’t play with them for long, then they get put in a random tote of toys until we eventually just throw them away in an effort to de-clutter. A lot of those types of toys are obvious candidates for a stocking stuffer. You can fill a stocking up fast and inexpensively with those things! I can’t bring myself to be the source of the cluttery toys, however. I want toys that will last, but I can’t bring myself to spend a thousand dollars on stocking stuffer items (I exaggerate…a little). I go for stocking stuffers that are useful, inexpensive, and I won’t want to throw away the next day.

For years, the stereotype of the father who is essentially just another child in the home has been a favorite on television shows and in movies. This really hasn’t been of service to fathers nor to families. Fathers are more than clumsy, dopey, large, children. The truth is, fatherhood is a sacred role. It is an important role. We all need to treat it as such, for the sake of our children, our families, and our fathers. “When a man feels inadequate as a father, he doesn’t get emotional and beat himself up,” my husband explained,”He withdraws.
