The authority derived from these sources is then disseminated by the law makers. The Law is political authority, ordering both the flock and the Ulama, creating a community of the flock, and prescribing answers for situations.

It discusses factors that influenced the confrontation such external tensions between the US and Soviet Union that fuelled distrust, and internal factors such as Israel and Syria’s political leanings. The article finds the confrontation is best described in terms of trends and triggers, as the Israeli-Syrian confrontation was no more important to the 1967 war than other factors.
